SPINNAKER SAILING DISASTER! We Rigged It Wrong…

It was supposed to be an easy final sail aboard our new yacht in Thailand… but things didn’t exactly go according to plan! On our last day aboard before leaving the boat for a few months, we sail from Koh Phangan to Koh Samui and decide it’s finally time to test our spinnaker. With only about 5 knots of wind, everything seemed perfect—until the wind suddenly jumped to nearly 20 knots. That’s when I discovered I had rigged the spinnaker wrong. I couldn’t furl it, couldn’t get it under control, and eventually had no choice but to drop the sail into the water while we were still underway. Getting a giant waterlogged spinnaker back aboard turned into a serious workout—and a pretty good lesson in what NOT to do!
