Rat Onboard! Horror of Finding a Rat on our Boat - Liveaboards Nightmare 030

Yup, we had a rat onboard within days of docking in Almerimar Marina. We tried using traditional traps, homemade traps, glue, duct tape and even Oscar, a Patterdale terrier - a proven ratter, but nothing worked. But if there's one thing worse than a live rat onboard, it's a dead one. It must have eaten the rat poison left out by the marina staff then crawled into the most inaccessible part of our boat and died. The stench of a rotting rat corpse filled the boat. We pulled the place apart trying to find it, and eventually retrieved the body with the vacuum cleaner from the ceiling void. Not the best start to wintering in Spain!
