Nobody Talks About French Guiana... After THIS We Know Why!
French Guiana turned out to be one of the most challenging and surprising stops of our world circumnavigation. What should have been a simple arrival quickly became an anchoring nightmare. Strong currents, muddy bottoms, and difficult conditions forced us to anchor multiple times before finally finding a spot that would hold. It's easy to understand why many cruisers skip French Guiana altogether. But despite the challenges, this unique overseas territory of France has plenty to offer. During our visit, we explored the incredible Guiana Space Center (Centre Spatial Guyanais), Europe's gateway to space and home to some of the world's most important rocket launches. In this episode: โต Our difficult arrival and repeated anchoring attempts ๐ The challenges of cruising in French Guiana ๐ฌ๐ซ Why so few sailors visit this fascinating destination ๐ A tour of the famous Guiana Space Center ๐ Our impressions of one of the least-visited cruising destinations in the region Have you ever sailed to French Guiana or considered adding it to your cruising route? After planning and saving for the past 6 years, we are now embracing our dream of sailing around the world on our Leopard 45 sailing catamaran. Follow our journey as we Circumnavigate the Globe in 3-4 years on a budget of $4,800/month (food, communication, fuel, insurance, transportation, mooring/marina & fun). We left the USA in October 2023 and plan to visit 26 countries on 5 different continents all while worldschooling a budding teen in our off grid tiny house. ๐ Looking for boating spreadsheets, inside info or wanna help keep the dream alive?
