MICROPLASTIC in our OCEANS. Collecting data to help fight plastic pollution - UNTIE THE LINES IV #50

As a sailor, I live on and of the ocean. This vast body of water has always fascinated me, I have always felt magically drawn to it since early childhood. During the last years, I have seen the drastic effects that plastic pollution has on our oceans. Shorelines covered in pastic trash, animals getting stuck in trash or dying from digesting it. One way to help fight this problem as an individual is to change the way I consume. I stopped using single use plastic like plastic shopping bags, plastic cups, plastic straws, plastic cuttlery, plastic bottles and I try to keep my bathroom plastic free by using soap bars and bamboo toothbrushes. It may not be the world, but a good step in the right direction IMO. Another way, more effective way, to tackle the problem is to adress governments and companies to reduce the amount of plastic that is being produced. One way to do this is to help to provide data about the extends of the plastic pollution of our word which can be used to show why it is so important to change something. That's why I decided to build a microplastic trawler to takes samples in the ocean during my onward journey. As sailors, we are out there doing our thing anyway. So why not take the time to occasionally launch the microplastic trawler and take a sample. I am sure that if we all did a little bit, we could gather quite the impressive data base.
