Exploring the River Weaver in the Seahopper

My first big outing on Piglet, I spend the whole day messing about on the River Weaver! We launch from the Runcorn rowing club jetty and off we go under the motorway bridge and on towards Frodsham and then on to the countryside which was beautiful and so peaceful. Next I have a really pleasent row, which not only test's out my new oars and oar sleeves, but it shows how wonderfully easy this boat is to row. It almost goes as quick as the motor!! The fuel efficiency of the outboard was great, especially while pootling about 4-5mph. We pass under Dutton viaduct as we get right into the groove of river life!! and shortly after we get to Dutton locks. I moor up by a huge canal boat and ask the lock master about going through them, however it was a definite and resounding "NO!" I even got another boater argue my case but it is definitely a no go so our outward journey ended there today. It was interesting to watch the lock in action and have a nice chat with the lock master and another boater. There should be some places where the canoes get in and out so I might try that next time. On our jurney back we test the motor and see how fast we can go!!
