Episode 35: Sailing Cefalù from Capo D'Orlando

We sailed from Capo D'Orlando to Cefalù . Unlike other sailors who might be satisfied with the mesmorizing anchorage near the castle, we really investigated the historic center and boy is it worth it. It's considered one of the top 5 highlights of Sicily so to miss it is a travesty. We begin at the heart of the old town, the Piazza del Duomo, where the majestic Cefalù Cathedral dominates the skyline. Built in the 12th century by Norman King Roger II, this UNESCO World Heritage site features impressive Arab-Norman architecture, stunning mosaics, and twin towers that rise dramatically above the town. From there, we wander through narrow cobbled streets, lined with artisan shops, quaint cafés, and medieval stone buildings. Along the coast, we visit the Old Port and the ancient Lavatoio Medievale — a beautifully preserved medieval washhouse with freshwater springs flowing through stone basins beneath vaulted arches. Don’t miss the breathtaking views from La Rocca di Cefalù, a dramatic cliff that overlooks the town and offers panoramic vistas of the coastline and cathedral below. At the summit, you’ll find ruins of the Temple of Diana, evidence of Cefalù’s pre-Roman past. Our tour ends at the Lungomare, Cefalù’s golden-sand beach, where locals and travelers come together to swim, relax, and watch the sunset over the Mediterranean.
