After checking into the island in the charming town of Sainte-Anne, we continue to the historic city of Saint-Pierre—once known as the "Paris of the Caribbean." But beneath its beauty lies one of the Caribbean's most devastating stories. In 1902, Mount Pelée erupted without warning, destroying the city in minutes and forever changing its history. We explore the ruins, visit the prison that held the eruption's famous lone survivor, walk through the remains of the grand theater and cathedral, and uncover the incredible stories that still echo through the streets today. To finish the adventure, we hike the very volcano that reshaped Martinique over a century ago.
