Dance is an important form of expression. We are treated to impressive performances of the Lebia Dance, Custom Dance, Pipilan, Pata and Yeng Dance. But the highlight of the dances is the famous Rom Dance, with its masks and costumes. Rom Dance is a traditional dance form of the indigenous communities on the island of Ambrym in the South Pacific. It is one of the cultural forms of expression that connect the rituals, history, and identity of the inhabitants. The “Back to our roots” festival serves as a platform to present this tradition to the public, preserve it, and share it with visitors. Do you have any specific questions? But sometimes life doesn't go as planned. In the spring of 2020, I was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. Suddenly, my life accelerated considerably. I sold my house, cleared out my belongings, and began purchasing mountains of sailing equipment. “Cast off!” was planned for early March 2021—and that's how it turned out, despite COVID-19. Brigitta was completely surprised, of course, even though sailing around the world fit much better into her professional life than mine. Over the next six months, however, Brigitta made an amazing transformation and is now just as excited about our big adventure as I am. We have now been traveling for a total of four and a half years. One adventure follows another, and we enjoy every day anew. In search of freedom and independence, a thirst for adventure, and a connection to nature, we – Brigitta and Hannes – are sailing around the world together. For this circumnavigation, we bought the Lagoon 40 MariaNoa catamaran, with which we set off on the Barfußroute from the French Atlantic coast at the beginning of March 2021.
