I’m on Ama Island, in Shimane Prefecture—Japan’s true Blue Zone and the country’s top hotspot for longevity. Why? Because this prefecture has more centenarians per capita than anywhere else in Japan. That’s right—100+ and still going strong. I came here thanks to fellow sailors and Never Too Late Academy members,Tyler, and Julia, who crossed the Pacific on their sailboat Ramona Rae and decided to settle right here. Also reconnecting with Brian, who sailed with them part of the way. And I even met Shige, an 80-year-old barber who’s still cutting hair and chasing a world record! More inspiring stories coming soon as I head to the next longevity hotspot. 📘 Follow the journey: A Journey Beyond the Blue Zone #BlueZoneJourney #LongevityJapan #NeverTooLate #Shimane #AmaIsland #HealthyAging #Centenarians #SailingLife #JapanTravel #AgingWell #japan #longevity #sailing

We paddle up a crocodile filled river to our friend Gideon's place. He takes us for a walk through the village talking about their way of life here. Completely self-sufficient, it is a must that you know how to build your own house, boat, and garden before you leave home. If you can't, you will either not survive or be a drain on the village community who will have to support you. 00:00 – Journey Begins: Paddling Through the Crocodile River to the Hidden Village 🚣♂️🐊🏞️ 2:20 – Welcome! Nothing ruins the sailing dream faster than a stressed-out crew and guests on an unpredictable trip. Today in this episode of the Captain's Salon Part 2 of my sailing series, we're talking about the aspects of sailing that help to transition to becoming more confident as a captain. I'll show you my predictable sail plan and the sailboat amenities that keep guests coming back! Cheers & Fair Winds! - Rodney & Cyndi
We are starting up our summer sailing heading towards the OSK pre-summer meeting which we will show in the next episode. In this episode it's easy sailing in the Stockholm archipelago. We might not have the best film quality, but it is authentic. Buon vento a tutti e buon 2024
