Day one in Maui, and of course, I was drawn straight to the harbor. After nearly 24 hours of travel (including a mid-flight emergency where my old nursing skills kicked back in!), I landed at Maʻalaea Harbor — the second windiest harbor in the world. For me, this walk is more than just a look at boats. It's a connection to my roots. It's a grounding feeling of home, thousands of miles away from gypsy and my soul mate. It’s a reflection on why the ocean keeps calling me back — from growing up in Valdez, Alaska and Prince William Sound, to now living and creating aboard with Scott as we take on the unfolding journey of refitting our 80’ triple-masted Thomas Colvin schooner, The Alaskan Gypsy. It's about gratitude for the entire experience! Whether in the raw stillness of Alaska or the trade winds of Hawaii, the sea has always been my grounding place. Thanks for joining me in keeping Gypsy Life connected across oceans. Feel free to comment along as I'd love to share the journey with you! :) Chapters: 00:00 – Arriving at Maʻalaea Harbor (Not in the Shipyard Anymore!) 01:06 – Checking Out Maui’s Boats & Vessel Styles 02:48 – Why Our Steel “House on the Water” Stands Out 04:14 – Harbor Reflections + My Mid-Flight Nursing Story 05:27 – How It All Connects to Refitting The Alaskan Gypsy 07:41 – Growing Up in Valdez, Alaska (My Ocean Roots) 08:19 – Deckhand Summers in Prince William Sound 10:31 – Inspired by Liveaboard Sailors I Saw as a Kid 11:23 – Dreams Becoming Reality with Scott 12:04 – Returning to Hawaii: Childhood Memories & Now 14:35 – Exploring More of the Harbor Walk 17:14 – Tropical Harbors vs. Alaskan Harbors 19:10 – Finding Maui’s Longest Stretch of Beach 20:49 – Closing Reflections: Freedom, Schooner Dreams & Ocean Life

Yachting Magazine Virtual Q&A Session - Like most disruptive ideas, the journey of creating CLX96 began with a clear vision emboldened by passion: to embody CL Yachts’ innate love of adventure, our acute connection with modern explorers, and an inherent desire to push luxury into uncharted waters. The result is a departure from the traditional motor yacht – a creation born from fresh eyes, new thinking, and smart design.

In this Episode we depart from Cartagena Marina with our 1979 Contest 36 and sail the Balearic islands of Rormentera, Ibiza and Mallorca. We explore the islands and get a visit from a superyacht. When going on an overnight sail from west to east Mallorca we get our first experience with catabatic winds. We travel with the Scabby Monohull Kids boat group which grows and grows as the weeks go on. We get our watermaker delivered by our friend Melle in his Eagle dayboat from Leonardo Yachts.

In this video, I show you how I perform basic maintenance on a Mariner 3.5 HP 4-stroke outboard engine. We change the engine oil, gear case lubricant, spark plug, and the water pump impeller. I also test the engine on a custom-made wooden stand I built myself, using a bucket of water for cooling simulation. Perfect if you want to keep your outboard in good shape and do the work yourself without complications. ⚠️ Disclaimer: This video is for informational and documentary purposes only. Performing mechanical maintenance involves risks. If you choose to replicate any of the steps shown, you do so at your own risk. Are Force Outboard Motors Any Good? A Comprehensive Analysis Force outboard motors have a reputation that sparks curiosity and debate among boaters. Known for their affordability and simple design, these engines were once a popular choice for budget-conscious enthusiasts. But with their production ending in 1999 and their resale value lagging behind competitors, are they worth considering today? 00:42 - History & Background of Force Outboardrs ( who makes force outboard motors) 01:25 - Design, Technology, and Performance 02:12 - Force Outboardrs Reliability 03:13 - Cost and Resale Value 03:39 - Availability of Spare Parts 04:02 - Who Should Consider a Force Motor? 04:53 - Conclusion In this video, we dive deep into the history, design, technology, and performance of Force outboards. From their origins in the 1960s under Chrysler Marine to their eventual rebranding by US Marine and integration into Mercury Marine, we trace the evolution of these motors and what sets them apart. We'll discuss their reliability, cost, availability of spare parts, and who might benefit from owning one. While some see Force motors as outdated and unreliable, others swear by their durability—provided they’re maintained properly. With a focus on affordability, these engines offered simplicity that appealed to DIY enthusiasts. However, their performance and efficiency often fell short compared to more modern brands. Are Force outboards a hidden gem or a risky investment? That depends on your needs, budget, and willingness to perform regular maintenance. Join us as we explore whether Force outboards deserve their mixed reputation. Have experience with a Force outboard? Share your story in the comments! Your insights can guide others as they decide whether these motors are a bargain or a headache. Don’t forget to like, subscribe, and hit the bell for more in-depth analyses.
