SAILING ILLUSTRATED #870 (Tue 30 Sep 2025) — Mathis Ghio (FRA) and Maddalena Spanu (ITA) have been crowned the winners of the first-ever Formula Wing World Championship in Cagliari, Sardinia. Their paths to men’s and women’s victory were far from straightforward however. The final day proved to be very dramatic, although it didn’t start out that way.... RORC Shares Hard Won Wisdom for the Round Britain & Ireland Race On 30 April,100 days to go before the start of the 50th anniversary of the Round Britain & Ireland Race on 09 August, the Royal Ocean Racing Club held a live webinar. The recording is now available to watch, giving sailors, supporters and prospective entrants the chance to hear practical advice from those who know the race from the inside. The hour long presentation brought together a highly experienced panel with nine race campaigns between them. The aim was to help competitors prepare for one of the Club’s great offshore challenges. Hosted by RORC Vice Commodore Derek Shakespeare, who will be taking part in his first race. The panel brought together professional, Corinthian, military and double handed perspectives, with contributions from Derek Shakespeare, Pip Hare, RORC Commodore Deb Fish, Will Naylor and Sam White. The aim was clear: to share insight, reduce uncertainty and help crews prepare properly for a race that demands far more than simple endurance. Antigamente, talvez, dependendo somente do SSB, a família teria ficado ansiosa.

Everyone enjoys seeing dolphins round their boat. And it seems catamarans attract more dolphins than monohulls. Presumably because the two bows are more fun to play with - and yes dolphins definitely play on the bow waves. We've seen two swim fast under the bridgedeck from port stern to starboard bow and vice versa, crossing underneath and seeing how close to the bow they could get. And we've seen the other dolphins clearly laughing at the one who hit our bow when cutting it too fine. That didn't happen this time, but here's a recent video taken when sailing our 30ft Sagitta catamaran from Fowey to Plymouth. Unusually for the English Channel it was clear, flat water so we could watch them easily.
We set sail from beautiful Orpheus Island and made our way out to John Brewer Reef, one of the most unique spots on the Great Barrier Reef. Picking up a mooring right on the reef, we had front-row access to crystal-clear aquamarine water, vibrant coral, and an underwater experience like no other – the Museum of Underwater Art (MOUA). Snorkelling around the sculptures was both surreal and breathtaking, with marine life weaving through the artwork, making it feel like nature and art had become one. Add to that some incredible reef scenery, sunshine, and perfect conditions – and this was an unforgettable stop that truly lived up to the hype. Every sail out to the reef builds our confidence, and this trip was one for the memory books – a must-do if you’re sailing or snorkelling around Townsville. Thanks for watching. How to change the engine anode on a Yanmar 1GM10
The boats diesel engine, a Japanese farm engine, marinized, was hard to find parts for, and my batteries needed to be helped, with some being OK and others not. I went 'Solar + LiPo4' and a 48 volt system to push an electric inboard, put this vid is of 8 HP electric outboard on a hinged half an Avon that pretends to be a swim platform that can hold outboards.
