Winter storm January, Netherlands, beaufort (bf)10, gusts to 78 knots force 12 (bf). First screen is the wind force and direction. Second screen shows the gusts and average windspeed (red number) of the last hour 51 knots bf10. It was even a bit worse than this video, I think this was bf10-11 with gusts to bf11-12. This was in the harbour, we can only imagine how it was outside...

Happy new year all. Never one to copy and be a sheep, but I have copied and I am a sheep. New Years day saw me dig out the running shoes and go trueing around the streets, all with one thing in mind. Get boat fit!! Now boat fit I have always said is different to being fit for a boat, or indeed being fit. What am I on about??!! I thin I am saying you can be boat fit, which is being at one with the boat and being able to get around with ease because you become used to your surrounds and being at sea, even if you are technically unfit. Then there is what I am trying to do which is get fitter to allow me to carry off better manoeuvres and not to be so exhausted after each. I am not fitness guru. DO NOT listen to anything I say with regards fitness. In short this video is the start of my attempt to loose weight, and get fitter for the double handed sailing escapades that are to come this year and after. Will I manage to shed an ounce of weight? Will I be able to run any further than the end of the road? Who the hell knows. What this video is not, is a fitness video. It is not the start of something differenent. Boats will return in their normal format in the next video. I have forgotten how much I like to talk absolute twiddle in these bits. It is much fun. I think I would like to go off at a random canter pace now, about British politics, social unfairness and pigmentation of Cornish seaweed. I won't though. Join me for a winter solo sailing session in Northern Ireland! We start in the engine room, finishing up some maintenance by changing the alternator belt—which turned out to be a bit of a struggle. Once the engine was ready, I couldn't resist heading out to sea to test some gear. In this episode, I’m testing a remote for the autopilot kindly fixed by David from @lowcostsailor and checking the plotter. You’ll see the challenges of hoisting sails solo, dealing with snags, and performing a "chicken jibe" (tacking instead of jibing) when the gusts got too hairy. The final presentation before the village in the Island Ua Pou. This is the dance group that Ua Pou will send to the Marquesan Art Festival 2022 in Fatu Hiva It is the almost complete performance 45 minutes, I omitted only some parts (8 minutes) We were so honored to be there. It was a complete hypnotizing experience. The drums, men and women were one sea of sound movement and power. Besides the performance, we heard in the end, this is also the youth that is doing a last performance for their elders. At least for some of them, they end school, go study in Tahiti only to come back years later. You could see the proud parents looking at their sons and daughters and the remembrance that they were dancing there one too. This was purely for their own village. I think we and some others where maybe less then 20 tourists.
