We leave the paradise of Maratua and sail south through the Makassar Strait, encountering fierce currents and some surprisingly large rogue waves along the way. Mid-passage, Chris tackles a leak in the watermaker to keep everything running smoothly onboard. Our first stop is the tiny town of Sendana, where the locals warmly welcome us and get us involved in a fun local challenge. Continuing further south to Pamangangang, we capture some stunning drone footage of the islands and crystal-clear waters before finally arriving in the bustling city of Makassar. Once ashore, we hire a couple of tuk tuks to show us around the city, stock up on diesel fuel, fresh fruit and vegetables, and visit one of the most incredible mosques we have ever seen. Make the selvegee between two posts, belaying pins, nails in a board, etc.. hitch one end to a post, and start taking even taught turns, I took 16 turns for this one. On the last turn marling hitch all the way around, fairly close together, and make the two ends fast to one another. This makes an incredibly strong flexible strop that can be used for just about anything. Take care that the turns are as even as possible so that the load is distributed evenly along all the strands.

There's something really nice about an early morning boat ride, when the sun is shining and the winds are low. Located Right next to Beusoleil, the Gin Islands are just two of 63 islands that make up the Georgian Bay Islands National Park. Well known to Aboriginal peoples as a bad weather refuge and stopping place, Beausoleil was used as a base for hunting and trading as far back as 7,000 years ago! Early voyageurs marked it as a midpoint on their travels between the Severn River and north Georgian Bay. Today it's a great recreational boating destination, with incredible views. Just be careful getting in. As always on Georgian Bay, there are plenty of rocks around!
