Episode 258 We leave Nelson Bay and push north into classic East Coast chaos — dark clouds, rain, and the Great Eastern Current trying its best to shove us backwards. With strong winds and messy seas, every mile feels earned. The weather forces us into Forster for the night, where we wait out the worst of it before continuing the next morning. Both Forster and Port Macquarie have notorious bar entrances, and crossing them in these conditions keeps the adrenaline high. By the time we finally make it into Port Macquarie, we’re exhausted, salty, and very ready to drop the hook. https://Rocna.com https://www.facpebook.com/share/1AE2Z2xjCz/ #Rocnaanchors SailorsBay Check out this App http://www.sailorsbay.app/ Thank you to all our subscribers, without you the channel would not exist! The open deck saloon of the Bestevaer 54 'MicMac' welcomes you with a large dining table and separate navigation corner. Below deck, there is the well-equipped galley, two cabins, two bathrooms, technical room, and a cosy seating area, which together guarantee comfort and functionality at sea. Best of both worlds: the new trend in Bestevaer design: The Bestevaer 54 ‘MicMac’ was delivered in the spring of 2024. This custom 1/1 yacht is based on the ‘Bestevaer’ design but with a hint of ‘Stadtship’. This fabulous combination produces a comfortable family yacht with a spacious deck saloon. _ Special features of Bestevaer 54 ‘MicMac’: Spacious cockpit | Its semi-open transom, wider than in the other Bestevaer models, creates a spacious cockpit with room for two steering wheels, producing a greater connection with the water. Innovative moveable arc | Supports solar panels and operates as davits for the tender. Dry out | The Bestevaer 54 ‘MicMac’ is fitted with a centreboard and double rudders, which means it is also suitable for drying out. Excellent manoeuvrability | With double rudders and an extra third rudder, for excellent manoeuvrability and performance, including in shallow water. Modern exterior | The pilot house has a minimalist, modern design with striking exterior lines. _ The new look of the ‘MicMac’ may well mark a new trend in the Bestevaer portfolio, with a modern open transom and a modern pilothouse that appeal to a broader audience. As with each Bestevaer, this yacht was designed by Dykstra Naval Architects.

#sailing #bluewatersailboat #pocketcruiser #classicplastic #boatfoolssailing The ULTIMATE Pocket Bluewater Cruiser? | $39,500 Southern Cross 28 Cutter | Full Boat Tour Some boats just won’t let go of you. This Southern Cross 28 Cutter, MAGIC, first appeared on a BoatFools Sailing Top 10 Countdown back in early 2023. That summer, Canadian Ken and I spotted her again—this time sold and sitting proudly on the docks in Rockland, Maine. We were smitten. Then we saw her again… In winter storage. And now—finally—we’re aboard filming her. Destiny? Kismet? Who knows. What we do know is this: MAGIC is an absolute stunner. Originally listed in 2023 for $32,500, her current owner has since invested over $84,000 in upgrades, transforming her into what may be one of the best-equipped pocket bluewater cruisers on the market today—now offered at just $39,500. At only 28 feet, this Southern Cross Cutter punches way above her weight. These boats have circumnavigated, including a documented voyage as recently as 2017, and are widely respected as serious offshore passagemakers—ideal for a solo sailor or cruising couple looking for a compact, capable, go-anywhere sailboat. If you’re searching for the “ideal” pocket cruiser—small enough to manage, tough enough to cross oceans—this boat should be at the very top of your list. 🌊 Galápagos Part 2 🐢✨ Two weeks were never going to be enough… so here we are, diving even deeper into the magic of the Galápagos. This place is unlike anywhere else on Earth. Raw, wild, and completely untouched. Above water, it already feels surreal — but beneath the surface, it’s a whole different world. We slip below the waves and suddenly we’re surrounded by life. Schools of fish moving like one, curious sea lions darting around us, and then… the giants. Graceful, ancient, powerful. Seeing these incredible animals up close, in their natural habitat, is something that stays with you. It’s quiet, it’s humbling — and honestly, a little overwhelming in the best possible way. Every dive feels like stepping into a documentary. No filters, no barriers — just nature at its most real. At the same time, life on board continues to evolve. We’re changing crew, reorganizing, preparing — but somehow, it all feels effortless this time. Calm. Natural. Like everything is exactly where it should be. And while we’re still soaking in every second here… there’s something big waiting on the horizon. Stay tuned 🌅⛵️
This was an ASA 106 course through the Maryland school of seamanship and sailing July 2022 aboard a 40ft Island Packet. We encountered a strong thunderstorm in the southern Chesapeake bay. The storm lasted approximately 1 hour with winds peaking above 50 mph.

Tour and learn details of this 2019 59 foot Nordhavn coastal pilot. This boat is one of five that has been built so far by Nordhavn and is one incredible coastal cruiser. Most Nordhavns are built to cross oceans, this boat is designed with a semi-planing hull that will run up to 20 knots. It is a design comparable to other cruiser yachts made by companies such as Fleming, Grand Banks, and Marlow. 1000 mile range rather than the typical 3-4000 mile range of other Nordhavns Currently valued as a 2 Million dollar yacht. We caught this tour just before the boat is being taken out on a 3,500 mile voyage and did not get to tour all of the interior as we normally would to allow the owners to prep for their trip but tremendously kind owner took time to talk about and show off this beautiful yacht

The bowline is one of the most popular knots in sailing because it holds well and is quick to tie and untie. And Dyneema is one of the most popular synthetic lines because it’s stronger than steel. But Dyneema is slippery and knots can pull right out, so some say you should NEVER tie a bowline in Dyneema. In this video we strength test a Dyneema bowline and see what happens.
