Crosbie Lorimer spoke to Rob Gough and John Saul aboard Kraken III and Jiang Lin and Aymeric Belloir aboard Min River about their respective races. The universal theme for all of the two handers were the challengers at the beginning and end of the race ranging from thunderstorms and wildly swinging wind directions at the outset, to 45 knot+ winds and confused seas as they completed the last stretch of the Tasmanian coast today.

NOW SOLD! Outbound Yachts need no word of introduction. Celebrated by world cruisers and featured consistently on such sites as Practical Sailor (who dedicated one of their Youtube Video to the Outbound 46 - Lady K Sailing), or Attainable Cruising with a lengthy and wonderful report by John Harries, or Bluewater Sailing Boat Reviews, which you can also read online, plus numerous publications and owner's reviews. The Outbound 46 has a well-deserved reputation as the gold standard of blue water cruising sailboats. Designed by renowned US naval architect Carl Schumacher, built to the highest standards and continually refined over more than 20 years in production, the Outbound 46 will take you comfortably across any ocean. Her solid GRP hull, encapsulated keel and high righting moment, she is also a nimble, quick but stable boat that is specially designed and built for serious offshore voyagers. Yet, when many go-anywhere yachts compromise on deep, cave-like interiors, sluggish pace and more classic lines with closed-in cockpit and steep companionway, the Outbound 46 bring you all the comfort and feeling of a modern yacht, with a wide sugar-scoop transom and open cockpit for easy access, bright and airy interior with large windows, beautifully handcrafted cherry wood interior and top quality stainless steel portholes, this yacht combines the best traditional ship building can offer, while offering a modern sailor what they need to feel comfortable. Built by Outbound Yachts in Xiamen City, China, next door to the Nordhavn and HH Catamaran factories, amongst others, the Outbound 46 is still in production. So far 80 Outbound 46 have been built, with many orders continuing into the future. Bright Moments is hull number 33. All Outbound Yachts are semi-customised and built to order, with each owner working with the factory to refine their yacht around their needs. For Bright Moments’s owners, years of research and discussions with Bluewater cruising specialists, this meant designing the interior of their yacht with a view to live on board in comfort and independence in the most remote parts of the world and cross 30,000 nautical miles. Storage and intelligent weight distribution were taken into consideration, with every space used for dedicated storage for supplies, personal items, tools, spare parts, sailing and safety equipment. Bright Moments is a work of art with few equals around the world for anyone looking for the perfect world explorer. Please read on and click on the Additional Descriptions for the detailed inventory and list of recent upgrades. This truly beautiful yacht is continually maintained and improved at no expense spared. Her owners are on board and will welcome you for an inspection or via video call if you wish. To make sure she is fully checked and ready to go, they have also commissioned a full in and out of water survey with Don Buckley, a well-known Australian surveyor dedicated to the Bluewater cruising community who flew to Fiji to inspect Bright Moments on the 10th of September 2025, just as we prepare to launch the boat on the market. Please get in touch and we will send you the report. Bright Moments comes turn key and with everything on board for you to start your journey now. -------------------- For a bit of info about Nautilus Yacht Management, we are a boutique-style brokerage devoted to high quality cruising yachts and to the cruising community since our launch in Sydney, Australia in 2011. Ready to master anchoring check out the NauticEd anchoring course - https://www.nauticed.org/sailing-courses/view/anchoring-a-sailboat?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=m0XRjy5ot9g Check out IMTRA the windlass experts - https://www.imtra.com Choosing the wrong rope for your anchor windlass is not just inconvenient — it can leave you unable to retrieve your ground tackle. This video breaks down the two most common rope types used with windlasses and exactly when to use each one. What this video covers: - Why three strand nylon is the most commonly used windlass rope and what makes its stretch characteristics an advantage - Why three strand rope holds its diameter under load, which keeps the chain wheel able to bite consistently - What plaited rope is, how it flakes cleanly into an anchor locker, and why it is the better choice for small vessels - The critical disadvantage of plaited rope on larger boats: excessive weight forward causes the rope to elongate, shrink in diameter, and lose its grip on the chain wheel - How anchor weight, chain length, and rope type interact — and why heavy anchors with long chain runs demand three strand rope The wrong rope does not fail dramatically. It simply stops working when you need it most. Understanding the difference between these two rope types before you buy is one of the most practical decisions you can make for your anchoring system. CHAPTERS: 00:00 - Three Strand Nylon: Why It Is the Most Common Choice 00:23 - The Stretch and Diameter Advantage of Three Strand 00:35 - Plaited Rope: What It Is and When It Works Best 01:03 - The Problem with Plaited Rope on Larger Vessels 02:13 - How to Match Rope Type to Anchor Weight and Chain Length #sailing #sailinggear #sailboat
Howdy folks! Welcome back to Nomad Boat Building. My name is Mark Reuten, and in this episode, we step back into traditional boatbuilding geometry and lay out a deck camber using simple geometric methods. Instead of relying on some form of compass to lay out a chord of a circle I walk through a practical shop-friendly approach using basic tools to create an accurate crown over a given span. We talk about how deck camber is defined in boat plans, how to translate that into a physical layout, and why this geometric method is often faster and more practical than using a string-and-radius approach—especially in a small shop. This technique is useful not just for deck beams, but also for making reusable patterns, shaping beam shelves, and ensuring consistent curvature across the entire boat.
