The 6th edition of the South Coast & Green Tech Boat Show, guided by Raymarine, concluded a highly successful three-day event at our prestigious Ocean Village Marina this past weekend (9-11 May). Among the standout launches was the World debut of the Hardy 45 European – the first Hardy to be completely designed and built in-house by Cockwells – which was officially unveiled on 7th May by Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal at the boatbuilder’s headquarters in Falmouth, Cornwall. The Innovation Hub once again proved to be the beating heart of sustainable marine progress, showcasing visionary products that are not only redefining marine technology but also steering the industry towards a greener, more resilient future. The Show will return next year, 8-10 May 2026.

Fountaine Pajot - A little background: Fountaine Pajot is a French shipyard that has been building boats since 1976, so coming up on about 50 years now. Everything is built in La Rochelle, France, which is one of the biggest boatbuilding hubs in the world. They actually started out building racing dinghies, and then were one of the early companies to really push the cruising catamaran market back in the 80s. Today, they have launched over 4,000 boats worldwide, so it is a very proven brand with a strong global presence. And now this is their brand new 41, replacing the Isla 40 and Astrea 42 Intro: This is the brand new Fountaine Pajot 41. It’s the next evolution of their entry-level sailing catamaran, but it really doesn’t feel “entry-level” at all. They’ve taken what worked on the Astrea 42 and made it more efficient, easier to sail, and more comfortable to live on. Transom / Aft Platforms: • Standard Davits, or optional swim platform. First 40 ft FP to have factory swim platform, Isla 40 did not..... super easy water access, whether you’re swimming, diving, or getting on a dinghy. The big benefit here is usability, no climbing, no hassle, just straight in and out of the water. • Wide steps up into the cockpit make boarding from a dock or dinghy feel natural and safe. Cockpit: • Large aft cockpit with full dining table, this is where everyone ends up. The benefit is that you can comfortably seat a full group without feeling tight. • Seamless indoor-outdoor flow, no step between cockpit and saloon. That makes the whole boat feel bigger and more connected. • Optional cockpit enclosure extends your living space in bad weather or cooler climates. Saloon: • Big wraparound windows, tons of natural light. The benefit is that it never feels like you’re “below,” even when you are inside. • U-shaped galley facing the cockpit, whoever’s cooking is still part of the group. This is huge for entertaining. • Clean, modern finish options, lighter woods, and fabrics make the space feel even larger. Helm: • Raised helm station with great visibility, you can see all four corners of the boat. That makes docking and short-handed sailing way easier. • All lines led back to the helm; you can sail this boat without leaving the wheel. Big benefit for couples or small crews. • Hardtop with solar integration gives you shade and keeps your batteries topped off. Forward Deck: • Dedicated lounge area up front, not just trampolines. The benefit is another social zone, especially at anchor or underway in calm water. • Wide, safe walkways, easy to move around the boat without feeling exposed. Cabins (Maestro Owner’s Version): • Full owner’s hull, separate shower, large head, and tons of storage. Here you have it ... the first video of a Sage 15 sloop sailing! ASOLARE is shown sailing into Admiralty Inlet, Puget Sound, just off of Marrowstone Point. Wind is blowing 10-12 kts, seas 1'. During this video ASOLARE's helm is balanced, tiller is secured with a TillerClutch, and she is holding her own course. Yes, the trim of the sail's isn't the best ... still figuring out the best set for the sails to have her doing her best.

Amazing sailing around Ailsa Craig, Scotland. Left Largs Yacht Haven and stayed the night on anchor at Lamlash, Arran before leaving early to sail around the island of Ailsa Craig. After a couple of excellent weeks on Scilly on my bilge keel 1980 built Westerly Fulmar, I picked a day to return to the mainland, which was challenging, but not as bad as it would have been the days before or after! I stopped at the Helford, Salcombe and Dartmouth to find good weather windows. In the video I set out some of how I manage the boat singlehanded. It’s the middle of winter, we’re still on the hard, and a sub-freezing cold snap has settled in—so this episode of our sailing refit looks a little different. When temperatures drop below freezing, outdoor projects grind to a halt, but refit life doesn’t stop. In this video, we show what winter boat work really looks like when you’re living between a boatyard and an apartment and doing everything you can to keep moving forward. With the help of two space heaters, Shawn heads out to the boat to tackle interior refit projects that can be done despite the cold. He works on electrical wiring, continues building the fuel polisher system, connects plumbing to the fresh water tanks, and installs pumps in the bilge—slow, careful progress in tight spaces while trying to stay warm enough to function. Meanwhile, Geri stays back at the apartment—she’s far less cold-tolerant, and skipping the boat during this deep freeze is honestly saving her sanity. Being warm, rested, and functional means she can take care of herself and stay energized for what’s ahead, instead of just enduring the cold. If you’re refitting a sailboat in cold climates, living through winter on the hard, or just curious what boat life looks like when sailing season is still months away, this episode captures the quiet, unglamorous, but necessary side of the journey. Every small task completed now brings us one step closer to launch day and getting back on the water.
