The difference between a dedicated bluewater boat and lightweight charter type boat becomes clear (again) as we leave St Thomas for Bermuda. Although the whole passage wasn’t like this (but could have been), leaving under 35-40 knot winds and huge swells once again reinforced the decision to buy an oceangoing hull that was designed for this sort of abuse. From the planning side, insurance wanted us out of their Tropical Storm (Hurricane) Zone between June 1st and November 15th, so our choices were to go south to Grenada or north to somewhere above Cape Hatteras. We eventually decided on Annapolis, Maryland, well up the Chesapeake Bay. But first we’d have to sail 950 nautical miles to Bermuda, and this is what we’ll see here. It’s a major offshore passage. But we do pay the price for our adventurous departure, and that comes when the wind finally dies a day and a half from Bermuda. We knew this was coming, as we’d been forced to choose the “least worst” departure date. The Azores High had been elongated for the previous month, extending all the way to the US coastline north of the Bahamas, and we were hoping against hope that it might move north along with us, but such hopes were dashed as we approached the island. Eventually we fell back on the iron genny to get us through the final glassy miles of the central Atlantic, finally arriving in St George’s after 6 days on the water. Such is life in the cruising world. sailing talisman, sailing, sailing youtube, boating, top sailing, oyster yachts, oyster sailboats, oyster 485, offshore, bluewater, blue water, sailing vlog, sailing vblog, sailing channels, sailing videos, cruising, monohull

Q: Luke, tell us a little bit about why you chose the Quick Gyro? A: We went with a Quick Gyro mainly because it was an aftermarket install and space was an issue! Luckily enough the Quick Gyro fit right in the space that we had, so that was one big plus for us, in-between engines in the engine room. The simpleness of the operation is another contributing factor; but also the fact that it's air-cooled and not water-cooled is a huge part for us. We spend a lot of time, because it's a marlin fishing boat, fighting fish. So we're backing up and reversing and we get a lot of air and turbulence under the boat. However we don't have any troubles with air locks in pumps or anything like that because it's all air cooled. ............................................................................... PG, Director Gineico Marine, is with Luke Fallon, Captain Kekoa Sports Fishing, discussing the Quick Gyro Stabiliser. Luke Fallon is one of Gineico Marine’s oldest clients with the X30 Quick MC² Gyro stabiliser fitted on his magnificent O’Brien 56. The Quick Gyro was fitted to the Kekoa three years ago. Luke is a very accomplished and professional captain on the reef and he runs game fishing charters on the beautiful Kekoa. He has some of the most ocean-going experience of any of our customers when it comes to the Quick Gyro. ⚓ Visit Kekoa Sports Fishing: https://www.kekoa.com.au/ ⚓ Luke Fallon Sports Fishing: https://www.lukefallonsportfishing.com.au/ ⚓ Photo credits: Kelly Fallon: https://kelldallfall.shootproof.com/ The Quick Gyro Stabilizer is available for practically any boat size, from 20 - 95ft, and up to 100 tons. ⚓ Want to learn more? How to Assemble the Strongback for a Kayak. in this Step-by-Step video, boat builder Bob Emser walks us through the process of assembling the strongback for the Little Auk 11 kayak. The strongback is a crucial part of the build, providing the necessary support and structure for the kayak as we move forward with the rest of the construction. Whether you're a first-time builder or a seasoned pro, this guide will help you get it right, step by step. Nick Schade's design of the Little AUK 11 kayak is a compact, versatile, and highly efficient craft, designed primarily for day trips, light touring, and recreational paddling. Schade, who is known for his work in kayak design, has a strong focus on creating boats that are both functional and beautiful, with an emphasis on performance. Overall, the Little AUK 11 is a well-loved design, particularly for those looking to build a personal kayak that offers the ideal mix of efficiency, stability, and style. The simplicity of its build combined with its elegant lines makes it a popular choice among DIY boat builders and kayakers who want a reliable and beautiful boat for day trips or light touring. “If you’re going to make it, make it beautiful.” Bob Emser As an advocate for backyard boat builders I offer a free 30 minute chat about your project. Want to support the podcast? http://patreon.com/SaltyAbandon You might wonder why I'm posting a video about the Kenny Chesney concert on my sailing channel. However, it's most appropriate since Kenny's music motivated me to pursue sailing. His music helped me visualize the dream so I could take the steps to live it now . It can only grow from here. Good times at the Kenny Chesney concert at the Wharf Amphitheater, Aug 5, 2017. We stayed on Salty Abandon for the weekend at the Wharf Marina. I included a little bit of footage from 2017 concert as well as 2016, 2015, and 2014 Kenny concerts. Like to see beautiful natural features like hongs, cavers, tunnels, majestic rocks? Best is to visit the area over several days with your boat (your own or one you charter) … next best way is to go on day trips with smaller companies that try to avoid the busy times at busy places … best to go early or late in the day and avoid WE and school holidays … to better enjoy this pristine nature! Filmed in between January & March 2019.

This video is boat geeks out there to have a look at our recent lithium battery install. We used Victron batteries sourced from PKYS and put in an 800 amp hour bank tied to our solar, generator and alternators. It was a huge undertaking, have look and leave a comment if you have any questions. ------------------------------------------------ Subscribe at: www.youtube.com/c/sailinghangtime Posting on: https://www.facebook.com/sailinghangtime https://www.instagram.com/sailinghangtime/ Recent videos: https://youtu.be/dj0sbA2J6kg https://youtu.be/6Y-JO8gWEck -------------------------------------------- About us: We are a family of four who have been living on our boat for the past 2+ years with our two boys and our newest addition, a Havanese pup named Ruby. We worked hard in our 20's and 30's and built a company that has an amazing team managing it and allows us to work remotely and take time to enjoy this time with our fmaily. We love adeventure, sports and an active lifestyle but also take pleasure in a great meal or a sunset gin and tonic. Boat life is challanging and busy but we have been learning as we go and have a great appreciation for the sailing community and the willingness of others to teach and share skills.
