Sailing from Maine to New Hampshire we stopped at Isle of Shoals, approximately 6 miles off the coast. Miles of Maine Island Hiking, Rock scrambling and Shoreline exploring.

Isle of Shoals, consists of 16 islands, the largest being Appledore, Star, Smuttynose, Malaga, White, Seavey, Lunging and Duck.

The most intriguing part ? There was a true Crime Murder on Isle of Shoals Smuttynose Island back on March 6,1873. Two Norwegian immigrants were brutally murdered in cold blood. Maren Hontvet, her sister Karen, and their sister-in-law Anethe—settled into the only occupied home on the island, unaware that by dawn, two of them would be dead.

Shortly after 1 a.m., an intruder slipped inside. Karen was strangled in her bed, Anethe was butchered with an axe, and only Maren managed to escape, barefoot and terrified, into the icy darkness. She hid among the rocks until daylight, clinging to life as her family’s world collapsed. Anita Shreve wrote a 1997 book about the event and in 2000, the film “Weight of Water with Sean Penn, Catherine McCormack, Elizabeth Hurley, and Sarah Polley was released.

I set out to capture something special — the summer solstice sunrise at Old Harry Rocks in Dorset. Staying overnight in the National Trust car park, I didn’t expect to share it with paddleboarders arriving at 3am, ready to see the sunrise from the calm sea. By the time I walked the mile to the cliffs, more paddleboarders and a few fellow photographers had gathered — all of us waiting for the first light. After two weeks of solo sailing along Sardinia’s rugged west coast, Sam reunites with Vika in Cagliari for a final taste of Italian life — from historic streets to rustic Sardinian cuisine. With Kaia checked out of the EU, we set off on our longest passage yet: a 40-hour, two-night sail across open water from Sardinia to Tunisia. The conditions are perfect, carrying us out of Europe and onto a new continent. From fiery sunsets to star-filled night skies, it’s a poetic farewell to our Mediterranean island-hopping season. But the crossing isn’t without challenges — denied anchorage by the Tunisian coastguard, we push through fatigue on our second night at sea before finally reaching Monastir Marina, Kaia’s new winter berth in Tunisia, where we’ll be living aboard with our three sailing dogs for the next seven months. This milestone marks the close of Season One, but it’s only the beginning of the adventure.
