We are now friends with the local sea turtle and kayak over the leopard sharks to the beach at White’s Landing. The full-moon rises as we paddle back to the boat. We also head to Avalon to provision our sailboat, and ride in the SS Nautilus semi-submarine. Tere loves his first glimpse of life underwater. We enjoy more time at the beach and I discuss how we are just like every other family out there. Every life has it’s struggles, it is all about learning to enjoy the ride.

I woke up early in our camper at Cwmtydu, while Jane was still asleep, and set out to explore a hidden cove a local had told me about. Sailing Free Spirit. We prep Free Sprit for her 1st hurricane with us. We removed as much as possible and tied her up. We were slated for a direct hit in Tampa Bay but the storm turned and made landfall south of us. We checked on her daily since the winds and rain were not bad. Had some distractions with an offshore power boat race that took us a little longer to complete the preparations. Luckily, we faired well and only lost a couple of dock lines. Ep 20 Sailing Free Spirit – Today we drove down to Fort Lauderdale and picked up the newly done Perkins 4.236 engine for us. This engine was created or pulled from a Marine Generator and converted to our boat engine. While she isn’t pretty, she works and will be out main power source for boat and to get us everywhere we want to be! Today is the journey to pick it up. Ep 58 – Appliances are here!! Sailing Free Spirit Unbox and placement of our Stove, Refrigerator and Freezer. Yay! This was a huge change to the boat. One giant step was done today to getting this girl cruise ready. Stove is a Force 10 - 3 burner ceramic electric cooktop with oven and the refrigerator and freezer are Isotherm. The freeze is a 4 shelf unit so I can separate food into sections. All units were purchased from West Marine. Lots of food testing will be done so I can see 1) how much power we are going to needed because I don't think the current situation will work; 2) can I use all burners and oven at the same time and 3) how much food can be stored in the freezer and refrigerator. So some testing will be done over the next couple of weeks. I just had to perform our 1000 hour service on the diesel engines, and decided to create a quick video to pass on the steps to adjust the valve clearance. It’s actually incredibly easy, especially on this engine and by doing this yourself, you can probably save between $750 to $1500. The total time to do both engines was about two hours and if I didn’t drop something into the engine (more on that in the video) it probably would’ve taken an hour and a half total, and that’s having never done it before.
