Maquemo Atoll is one of the larger atolls in the Tuamotus, with two amazing passes to dive and spearfish, and while doing this live the experience of being surrounded by dozens of sharks of different species (most common are black tip, white tip, grey reef - more dangerous) and having some of them snatch and swallow your prey just after you have caught it! Its ¨motus¨ (islands encrusted in the atoll reef) are stunningly beautiful, reminiscent of what might have been Robinson Crusoe´s Island in Daniel Defoe´s book and imagination. This book first published in 1719 as Polynesia was being explored and discovered by Europeans.

In 2023, we traveled extensively, beginning with visiting Chile, and returning to Chile at the end of the year, circling the globe halfway. We came to Chile to check our boat in January after pandemic restrictions lifted. Our journey continued through the United States to New York, fulfilling a long-held dream. Reuniting with our kids in Mossel Bay South African, we embraced a semi-work, semi-vacation lifestyle. However, as winter set in, life became uncertain, making me ponder over the imperfections of perfection. Yet, amidst uncertainties, we ran marathons, defied limits, and ultimately decided to resign, planning to resume our delayed global voyage. Now, nearing the year-end, as boat repairs conclude in Chile, we eagerly anticipate a promising 2024, exploring new destinations, cultures, and cuisines, wishing the same for all who follow our journey. 回想2023这一年，兜兜转转走了许多路，从智利，再回到智利，中间绕着地球转了半个圈。 年初，因疫情解封，我和老公终于能够去智利探望伊他卡号，查看船的情况。 从智利返程回南非时，转道美国，去纽约旅行一周，完成了多年的心愿。 二月份和孩子团聚，在一个南非陌生的海滨城市，开始了半工作半度假的理想生活模式。 可是，随着冬季的到来，日子变得阴霾起来，我常想，是不是不完美的生活才是完美？命运总是在你不经意的时候埋下一颗不平常的种子，万物阴阳平衡，没有是非对错。 埋怨与反抗无济于事，最后能做的只有接受，孩子有孩子的未来，做父母的只能尽力支持与理解。 在多风多雨的阿古拉斯角，非洲最南端的小镇，我们一家人开始跑步，从5公里到10公里，再到17公里，不断地突破极限，跑到自己都不相信，几个月的训练，终于在开普敦Gun Run的半马比赛中跑出了6分半的理想成绩。 有人说过，人生没有极限，限制你的是你的思想。人入中年，我和老公一起辞职，准备继续我们的帆游，完成因疫情耽搁了几年的环球旅行。说实话，做这个决定不容易，但人活着，更重要的是给自己一个交待，一个不失望的人生。 11月初，我们带着孩子，一家四口再次回到智利，开始没日没夜地修船。智利的高物价在南美是出了名的，生活花销与修船都不容易，加上我们糟糕的西班牙语，花了莫须有的冤枉钱也是常有的事。 如今，年末将近，修船也近尾声，期待着崭新的2024年，新的行程与新的航线，拜访新的国度，体验新的美食与文化，希望新的一年里一切都将美好，如我所愿，同样的祝福也送给每一个关注伊他卡号的你。
