Music by Youth Signals (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVr8B-W5vVUNjTzzykrmxtA) Really appreciate the support, check out the Patreon for more access and perks: https://www.patreon.com/FindingSimon I'm a Canadian photographer from Ottawa who got rid of everything to travel to world. I make travel vlogs about my Vanlife, sharing vanlife ideas, vanlife tips, and travel diaries. Instagram: @Finding_Simon Snapchat: Finding_Simon Twitter: @FindingSimon :::::::FAQ::::::: - How do you afford to travel constantly? A: I live in a van, which certainly cuts costs down but still I need to make some money in order to afford to continue, currently I make 90% of my income through working as a photographer/videographer. I regularly work for Airbnb as a real estate photographer and I also take on bigger commercial contracts whenever I get the chance. - How much does it cost? I spend on average $2000 travelling, most of which is gas, some repairs, food, and on average less than $200 on any eating out, shopping or extra curricular expenditures. I make $200 a month from YouTube and $400 from Patreon. The rest I make from my work. - What camera do you use? Sony A7ii, Nikon D810, Sony RX100 iii, DJI Phantom 3 Advanced, Rode Videomic with Deadcat, Zihyun Crane 3 Axis Gimbal, Underwater Housing, tripods and lights. - What is your van? 1992 Dodge B350 Travelhome with the 5.9L TBI gas engine. I spent $3500 buying it and so far another $9000 in repairs upgrades and maintenance. - What're your plans? Travel forever. The Arctic this summer, Asia next winter, Sailboat the world after. I want to see this whole world, and I'm playing it all by ear. - How do you find all these cool places? To gain access to my complete research you need to hit me up on Patreon, but here's a few sites I frequent: https://freecampsites.net/ https://www.campendium.com/ http://www.atlasobscura.com/ https://www.couchsurfing.com/ - What do you do for Internet? I use coffeeshops and libraries to upload episodes a few at a time, I also use my wifi antenna (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5T9lNM8Mukk&t=2s) and a data package on my phone (10GB) - How do you live in a van with a dog? It's really not as difficult as people seem to think. I spend most of the day with my dog anyways, especially if it's warm out in the middle of the day. If I have to leave him inside the van I cover the front seats so he can't climb up and stare out the window and bark. I cover all the windows with reflectix panels I made for insulation, I turn my fantastic sucking air out on max (replaces all the air in the van every 90 seconds). I crack one window in a shaddy lower part of the van to create a consistent airflow. Other than that the fiberglass roof and insulation do a fantastic job of keeping the heat out. In colder climates I set the furnace on at minimum and close down all the windows same as for heat minus venting. - What happened to the girl? We decided to go seperate ways (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPgxDIXxCjY&t=4s) - Are you rich or something? definitely not. I've spent some quality time homeless, I've struggled financially most of my life, and although I'm blessed with great friends and family as well as being able bodied white and male, I don't subscribe to the belief that you need someone footing your bills in order to travel the world. You need to sacrifice comfort, consistency, safety, time with family, and often your career but it is possible. - Why don't you have 10x more subscribers? My channel isn't that old, many of the bigger channels you can compare mine to started putting out videos a couple years before I began. I could always use your help sharring my videos, spreading the word, and connecting with cross promotional opportunities. Editing and travelling tend to take up all my time.

So with the weather forecasters all agreeing that we would have some good weather for Easter we decide, at the last minute, to spend some family time away on the boat.... even if the tides are all wrong! We make these films just for fun, and we hope that you have enjoyed watching them however we have been asked on a couple of occasions now if we have a Paytreon account. We don’t want to do that at this stage as we feel it would turn the channel into a business, and as we said at the beginning, this is all just for fun. However if you would like to support us and feel you could help contribute to the cost of making these films then you can do that via our PayPal account here. https://www.paypal.me/TheFoxwellFamily And a big thank you to everyone that has supported us so far, its very much appreciated. A staysail is a type of sail on a sailboat that is set on a stay, or a support wire or rod that helps support the mast. A staysail can be found on the forward section of the boat, between the mast and the bow of the boat. Staysails are smaller than the main sail and can be triangular or jib-shaped. Depending on the design, the staysail can be attached to the stay with hanks or a furling system, which allows for easy deployment and stowing. A staysail can be used in various wind conditions and can be adjusted to provide more or less power depending on the wind speed and direction. Often, the staysail is used in combination with the main sail to optimize sail trim and help the boat sail more efficiently. Sailboats with staysails typically have a rigging plan that includes multiple stays or shrouds that provide support to the mast. This rigging is more complex than the simple fore-and-aft rigging found on smaller sailboats, but it allows for greater sail area and better performance in a wider range of wind conditions. #sailingexperience #sailinglife #sailingadventure

With unrivalled outdoor living space, the Swift Trawler 54 breaks the mould in passagemaking. This perfect family home on the water offers boaters the opportunity to enjoy efficient long-range cruising in an elegant and cosy atmosphere amidst ultimate comfort. This latest addition to the Swift Trawler range is a beautiful balance of accessible, spacious and home-inspired living where you enjoy the journey as much as the destination. Learn more: https://www.beneteau.com/en-us/trawler/swift-trawler-54 -- About BENETEAU -- The first BENETEAU boats sailed from the shipyards of Croix-de-Vie over 140 years ago. Since that time, the BENETEAU brand has been synonymous with quality and innovation to all those who have taken to the water – first by the fishermen who made their livelihood from the sea and then by the legions of recreational boaters around the globe. Over the years, our commitment to innovating and embracing ideas, no matter how unconventional, has been at the forefront of who we are in order to bring you the best boat possible. BENETEAU was one of the first boatbuilders many years ago to use computer-aided design (CAD) as well as lighter, stronger composite building materials. We’ve also been at the cutting edge of using greener materials and processes to do our part in protecting the incredible world which we explore. However, all this innovation doesn’t mean we’ve turned our back on tradition. One thing we’ve discovered in over a century of boatbuilding is that new-world innovations work best with old-school craftsmanship. This combination has resulted in some of the most iconic sailboats and powerboats in the world – supremely seaworthy yachts renowned for their sense of style, luxury, and comfort along with their creative use of space and new technologies. -- Philosophy -- We’re a lot like you. We love the water in all its forms – the ocean, bays, lakes, and rivers. And we love sharing the boating lifestyle with our family and friends. This love manifests itself in every BENETEAU built in any one of our many manufacturing facilities worldwide. Every BENETEAU sailboat and powerboat on the water reflects the best efforts of the finest architects, designers, and craftsmen along with the highest quality materials and the latest innovations. When you purchase a BENETEAU, you become a valued member of our BENETEAU family. For this reason, our after-sale service is second to none as evidenced by the multitude of National Marine Manufacturers CSI Awards for Excellence in Customer Service. At the core of this outstanding service is our exceptional dealer network. Every one of our authorized BENETEAU dealers will be there for you – from choosing the right yacht to the handover and beyond. Your dealer will be your able guide when it comes to maintaining your boat properly and will help you maximize the return on your investment when it comes time to step up to another BENETEAU – and it usually does! We wouldn’t have it any other way. Compare the simplicity of removal of an electric drive with that of a diesel engine. 4 minutes vs. 4 hours....

It took way too long before we made it here after our engine died on the first season. The wait was worth it since we sailed into postcard perfect Alders Cay in the Berry Islands. With a growing belly we still went out on adventures and I even speared my biggest fish ever. Everything is a little more challenging when you're on a sailboat but it's so worth it.
