Monhegan Island & Harpswell - 9 miles of hiking trails, the highest ocean cliffs on the Maine coastline, a quaint village with shops, activities and lodging, seals, and a local lobster fleet. What more could you want on an isolated Maine island? Monhegan is a small, rocky island ten miles from the nearest mainland and scarcely a square mile in area. It is accessible only by boat and is primarily a walking island. The town is quaint with plenty of interesting local spots to visits and the hikes were exhilarating. Oh, and only 64 permanent residents. We anchored next to the 142ft. Baltic Semi Foiling SuperYacht "CANOVA" Baltic Yachts are leading the development of cutting edge foiling technology in the large luxury sailing yacht market. which means less pitching and more stability. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySzndUlIinE Mooring balls are hard to get, but well worth the effort, as anchoring can be tricky due to the water depths and the rocky bottom. Not to mention that the water is COLD even in summer, so diving on your anchor would be quite refreshing! Manana Island (next to Monhegan) just sold for at auction for $199000. It comes with a caretaker house, although it is in need of “caretaking”. Use to be the USCG signaling station. It has a tram on the other side that you can use to haul stuff up from the harbor. Quite larger than the shanty drop off spots that we have seen so far on this trip. This must be where all of the local drop off spots bring their lobsters for their final journey to your dining table. It’s a hard business to be in. Your day starts between 4-5 am, no matter the weather. And there are so many pressures on the lobstermen. Tourism is conflicting - competing for good workers and implementing sound ordinances not to wake the tourists so early with loud boats. But don’t the tourists want to see and eat the Maine lobsters? Additionally, the high cost of gear, affordable coastal housing availability, and competitive pressures from overseas fishing mean less lobstermen every year. Hi Everyone, The battery has been going dead in our 1995 Porsche 993 and in this video I go over a couple methods you can use to find electrical parasitic draws in your car’s electrical system. The first method is for older cars that you are fine with removing the negative battery cable and the second is great for newer cars where disruptions to power can cause big headaches. All you’ll need is a good Volt/Ohm/Amp multimeter and a little critical thinking. You’ll want to consult your owner’s manual to locate all the fuses and electrical components for your particular car. The first method involves removing the negative battery cable and splicing in an ammeter to directly read the parasitic current draw. By removing fuses we can directly see just who is causing all the fuss. The second method involves measuring the voltage drops across all the fuses. All fuses have some small resistance and if there is a current, we will see that effect in a voltage drop across the fuse terminals according to Ohm’s Law (V=I*R). I provide the resistance for the popular fuse sizes in the video so you can use I=V/R and calculate the approximate current, but if you would like to download a neat chart, I came across this site: http://info.powerprobe.com/fusechartsdownload Knowing your voltage across the fuse and its size, you can use the char to read the current flowing through the fuse. Pretty neat, huh? Catamaran Anchorage for Christmas Abaiang A Chilled out Christmas in Kiribati. Episode 64 This week we explore the crystal clear blue waters on the western side of Abaing atoll in Kiribati. It makes for some amazing Darren-tastic drone shots.... There are uninhabited, coconut tree covered sand islands, a small eco resort and not much else! After spending a very rolly night at anchor near one of the ocean passes, we seek a bit more shelter in front of Teirio Island Resort. This small eco resort has five local style bungalows, a communal dining area and a great outlook. Derek , the owner, makes us very welcome and introduces us to his only two guests ; Ken and Steve who are visiting from the UK. We share the same warped sense of humour and get along famously. We are even invited to join them on a snorkelling trip up to Manra island on the North western side of the atoll. In the blink of an eye , Christmas Day rolls around. After a kayak session and walk on the beach , we celebrate with a bit of a cook-up. We enjoy a magnificent lentil loaf with all the trimmings, followed by a lovely pineapple upside down cake. Världens vackraste strandpromenad. Visst får man väl lite partiskt säga så som Varbergsbo? Att strandpromenaden finns här i Varberg vet de flesta om, men att den kom till helt genom ideella krafter och insamlade medel är kanske mindre känt. 💡 Initiativet till byggandet av Strandpromenaden hade kommit redan i slutet av 1800-talet men först år 1909 påbörjades arbetet med byggnationen med stadsläkaren Johan Severin Almer i spetsen. Han bildade sällskapet Varbergs Strandpromenader. Ett sällskap som hade som uppgift att anlägga en strandpromenad utmed havet mellan Kallbadhuset och Apelvikens kustsanatorium. 🧡 Redan samma år gav vi på Varbergs Sparbank vårt bidrag till byggandet av Strandpromenaden som sedan invigdes sommaren 1912. 🧡 När man sedan något år senare ville förlänga promenaden söderut ner mot stora Apelviken betalade Varbergs Sparbank hälften av markinköpet. Sammanlagt har vi bidragit med drygt 5 000 kr för skapandet av världens vackraste Strandpromenad. Tacksamma för medborgarinitiativ som skapat platser som dessa, som vi nuförtiden så självklart går våra morgon-, middag- och kvällspromenader på.

It's finally time to find our boat!! ⛵️ We have also had some good news and managed to sell our Nissan Sunny for almost DOUBLE the $ we paid for it, which means we will be able to spend a little more on our boat 🎑 We packed up from our house sit in Auckland & started our road trip towards Bay of Plenty. 🚗 We decided to live in our car during the twelve days in between our house sits, to try and save as much money as possible for our boat. There are two boats in Rotorua that we went to view and it was time to decide which one we were going to choose! We set up a camping spot by Lake Rotorua. Likt en gigantiskt grön lunga breder Påskbergsskogen ut sig i centrala Varberg. Men visste du att i slutet på 1800-talet så fanns inte den här skogen som vi idag tar för självklar? Den är nämligen planterad av Småfåglarnes Vänner som vi på Varbergs Sparbank sponsrat under tre decennier mellan 1888-1921. 💡 Mannen bakom idén att plantera dessa stora mängder träd under 1800-talets andra hälft var rektorn Herman Rodhe. Han hade en övertygelse om att både människor, fågellivet och djurlivet mår väl av att ha grönska omkring sig. 🐦 Därför bildade han ”Planteringssällskapet Småfåglarnes vänner” vars medlemmar hade till uppgift att plantera och sköta anläggningen, ofta i sällskap med hans skolelever. 🧡 Redan 1888 påbörjade vi på Varbergs Sparbank vårt ekonomiska stöd till planteringssällskapet. Första tillfället med en summa av 400 kr och fram till år 1921 donerade banken sammanlagt 11 700 kr till förmån för grönskande träd, sjungande fåglar och njutande människor. Vi hoppas att du njuter av att vandra omkring i Påskbergsskogen idag lika mycket som vi. 🌳
