After a month being on the hard, we went sailing again. First to the Trintelhaven. A special place for us as we had our wedding there in 2009. Some people had a big, loud, late night (illegal?) party/rave. We had some visitors and did a haircut. Afterward we went on a night sail to Kornwerdezand. Stocking up our fridge and pantries for long passages without grocery stores. We navigate through the VERY shallow yachting highway of Lefkada Greece, ending in a cool floating drawbridge. Lefkada is a Greek island in the Ionian Sea, connected to the mainland by a causeway. West coast beaches like Porto Katsiki and Egremni feature sheer cliffs and turquoise waters. The east coast is known for its traditional villages, including the seaside resort of Nydri. In the north, Lefkada town is the island's gateway and capital. Vassiliki, in the south, attracts windsurfers.

Episode 041 Welcome to another Skipper's Boot Camp video. If you are a New Zealand registered sailboat, in order to leave New Zealand waters by boat, we have to meet our Category 1 requirements (known as Cat 1). Cat 1 has pretty stringent requirements (we believe for good reasons) and requires both boat and crew to be prepared to leave New Zealand and cross an ocean. One of the requirements is that we had to attend a sea survival course. We really enjoyed this course and think anyone who is buying a boat should be doing this course. We thought we knew a lot...but we didn't really...and it made us really start to think about our safety at sea. Fortunately for me, I have Adam and if you have been following us for a while, he takes our safety very seriously and is a firm believer that we are better to practice and become familiar with our safety systems and how to do things, rather than having to figure it out in a worse case scenario. So after this course, we decided it was time to go through our safety systems and practice our man overboard drill. With it just being the two of us, knowing how to rescue each other single-handed is paramount. Until the filming of this video, I (Vicki) was unfamiliar with all our safety systems and I was always worried what I'd do if I was on my own. This is why we practice. We hope you enjoy it! From new experiences to meeting incredible people along the way, our life has been enriched in so many ways and makes us ever so more appreciative of our environment and the footprint we leave behind. Tāiko is our floating home. She gives us the freedom to go anywhere the wind and weather allows. By living a more minimalistic and sustainable lifestyle, she has provided us with a better work/life balance and has taught us to live and be present more in the moment. Tāiko has also taught us to be more independent and less reliant on services. Some of these experiences have taken us out of our comfort zone many times but as the saying goes, ‘a comfort zone is a wonderful place but nothing grows there’. Our plan is to do blue water cruising. So, over the next year we will be completing some maintenance work on Tāiko and be getting her ready to meet New Zealand’s category 1 requirements to be able to go offshore. Part 1 of our 2-part series takes us to Gibsons, BC, in the Sunshine Coast. On our way to Gibsons, we encountered a family of dolphins, which is a first for us.
