Lychees are tropical fruits that grow on trees, originally in China, but now found in many parts of Asia and beyond. We first came across and tried lychees while living in South Africa as they are grown as a fruit crop there. We visited a grocery store in Martinique today and it turns out they are grown here too, so we excitedly bought some! Lychee is often used as a flavor description for white wines and I never knew what that flavor was. Know that I do, I’m excited to pick that out in a wine some day. The remaining warranty work is now complete. The third black water tank was the charm and the power point in the owner’s stateroom was relocated per original specifications. We were hoping for a 2-day sail home but the weather did not cooperate. The slight zypher was behind us, robbing us of precious apparent wind, the temperature reached 100 degrees Fahrenheit and the seas were glass. We could not have picked a worse day to bring “Moments in Time” back home. We decided to motor the distance and power through the heat. We departed at 10:30 am and arrived in our home berth at 06:00 PM without incident. Did we say it was hot!? It was hot!!!, really really hot! It is good to be back. Subscribe and share the adventure! Living aboard our 80’ steel schooner in remote Southeast Alaska means the work is never ordinary. In this episode, Scott paddles ashore from the Alaskan Gypsy to help remove dangerous trees looming above a seaside cabin in Port Protection on Prince of Wales Island. After storms and blowdowns damaged the property and nearly knocked the cabin off it's foundation, the goal was simple but not easy: get the hazard trees down before they came down on the cabin again, generator shed, or tent. With limited tools from the boat, old rigging line, a pulley, wedges, a ladder, and plenty of improvised problem-solving, this turned into one of the most technical and suspenseful tree-felling jobs we’ve filmed. Remote Alaska life is beautiful, but it comes with real work, real risk, and a lot of figuring things out as you go.
