Join us for this weeks episode as we arrive in Palma to see Team Ineos' Americas Cup boat blasting around the bay before going on to watch my brother Elliot Hanson, an Olympian racing in his Laser class dinghy. We took Dad + Hannah (his partner) out on the boat to watch, which was a very special couple of days. After this we moved round the corner to Cala Xinxell where we watched a lot of anchor chaos unfold. A local charter boat with skipper on board proceeded to anchor in the protected Poisidonia (seagrass), and then drag anchor, killing literally hundreds of years of cumulative growth. The grass grows at 1 millimetre per year. Then another boat dragged onto our friends SV Arlequin, and then again onto Sailing Saffron (Chris + Amy). We then had to help them as their throttle box later broke and their boat was stuck in forward gear. This is Episode 30 of our adventure. The day before launch goes well as we get the last of the jobs ticked off. The day of the however and things start to go wrong, things happen that we hadn't planned for. The launch itself brings other problems that force us to think on our feet. Luckily we had a great team of people on hand to help. We experienced, excitement, panic, anxiety, hope and good fortune. Was the good fortune our own making? was the panic and anxiety only natural? We take time to reflect and realise that maybe the launch did go well it is all a matter of perspective. We are a family of five with plans for an epic adventure, sailing around the world. We have bought a boat we have to gut it, rebuild it, sell all of our possessions and have the guts to cast off. Follow our adventures. After our disastrous attempt to cross the Atlantic Ocean a few years ago, it started to dawn on us that we were going to try it again… very soon. We had officially arrived in Bermuda after a 6 days sail from St Martin, with LOTS of leaks, a few broken blocks and plenty of caulking to do in order to get us ready for a trip across the ocean again. Being a little scarred from last time, we were trying to prepare for EVERY eventuality… including checking the propeller shaft, JUST in case it had moved! It was a massive sigh of relief that we confirmed that it had not moved and if something broke on this passage, it most likely wasn’t gong to be that. It took us about a week of preparation to get us ready to go again. Now we just had to wait for a suitable weather window. So while we were waiting, we decided to rent a scooter and do a more thorough exploration of the island than we had done last time. Our first and big stop of the journey was the beautiful beaches of Bermuda. Spotting HUGE fish, snorkeling and discoing little fairy ponds in the cliffs. It was such a gorgeous place that we ended up spending a lot longer here than planned and after ways had a late lunch at the oldest pub in Bermuda, the Swizzle Inn. While we were there, we identified a pretty good window which we might have been able to cross in.
