What started as one of the most beautiful winter cruising days we’ve ever had in Southeast Alaska nearly turned into a disaster. We were navigating near shore outside Wrangell when our steel sailboat Alaskan Gypsy struck something hard beneath the surface. No warning. No visible marker. Just a grinding impact that turned a calm cruise into a serious event. With one of our children aboard and daylight fading, we began checking bilges, tanks, through-hulls, and systems, unsure if we’d hit ice, a log, or a submerged rock. The next step meant cold water, winter conditions, and an underwater inspection of the hull. What we found surprised us. Speaking with the band before the show, I could immediately feel that the band was really passionate by their performances. As U2 will soon celebrate their 50 years together as a band, their best tribute band has also performing together for many years! Peter (The Edge) started the band in 2003 and Dave (Adam) joined him at the very beginning. You can see the efforts in minute details, like mannerism & clothing to re-create U2 live concerts! Well done, guys! So if you ever get the chance to see a live-show of this top performing tribute band, you will be in for a treat! Every year, they create a new show, so for one, will be on the lookout for one of their international shows! A personal note about the show: it was great to be able to sit comfortably in an indoor theater, be near the stage so you can see the artists well enough and to have the sound not set way too loud … 3+ over open air shows!

We visit Orpheus Island to see the clam gardens, which were planted in the 1980s, the garden is now populated by several hundred clams each weighing 150 – 200 kilograms. After waiting for the tide to come in we get to see them squirting water creating quite a view. We move around to nearby small uninhabited island Fantome Island to view the ruins from the 1928 lock hospital, and the leper colony which was present from 1939 to 1973.

Il est important aussi de bien planifier son entrée dans l'Inlet de Cape May afin d'??viter de se retrouver avec une marée descendante dans la proue. Les mouillages à Cape May sont limités. Nous étions très près de la bouée verte au début de l'Inlet car il y avait déjà beaucoup de voiliers.
