In this video we install a brand new MANSHIP deck hatch! Like every boat project however, there is only tiny snag. The old hatch has a slightly smaller footprint than our new one! This may not seem like a big deal on the surface...but once we got into the meat of the project it became clear quickly that some modifications needed to be done to our boat, and we needed to make a trim ring to accommodate the new hatch! This was not fault of the hatch, and to be fair...the measurements on each are equal...what was not done well on our boat was how the original manufactured hatch was installed. It was screwed in, and done with very little care to water intrusion in the future. So...we fixed it. All of it. Yep, the 2 day job turned into 6....but in the end we have a gorgeous result and a hatch that will not leak...but better yet? Will be MUCH easier to remove and maintain in the future! One adventure follows another, and we enjoy every day anew. In search of freedom and independence, a thirst for adventure, and a connection to nature, we – Brigitta and Hannes – are sailing around the world together. For this circumnavigation, we bought the Lagoon 40 MariaNoa catamaran, with which we set off on the Barfußroute from the French Atlantic coast at the beginning of March 2021. In this video we explore the ups and downs of Bermuda in the winter months. Would we spend the winter in Bermuda again? We would definitely spend a winter in Bermuda again, but there are some things we would do differently. Bermuda is an expensive location, so the more you can stock up on everything from food, to spares, and even supplies for boat projects, before you leave for Bermuda, the better off you will be. Water must be purchased in Bermuda, so a means to collect rain water, or a water maker would be a real cost saver. The frequent gales in Bermuda, means that you need to have good ground tackle that’s easy to deploy, or rent a mooring in a protective cove. O barco Inaê Soto Amstel Ultra fez o último treino na tarde deste sábado (23) antes de estrear na tradicional semana esportiva, que chega a sua 49ª edição. A equipe de Santos (SP) estava completa para os treinos, que contou com os últimos reparos na vela e ajustes. Na classe ORC, o Soto 40 enfrentará outros quatro veleiros de mesmo tamanho nas regatas: o Phytoervas 4Z, King, Argos e Vesper. A equipe fez várias regatas treinos no primeiro semestre visando a semana em Ilhabela (SP), bem como a participações em campeonatos como Paulista de Oceano, Copa ICS e Copa Mitsubishi. Neste domingo (24) a competição se inicia com o desfile dos barcos às 11h e a largada para a Regata de Toque Toque, às 12h. A regata Alcatrazes por Boreste Marinha do Brasil, que deveria ser neste domingo, não será realizada devido à previsão de ventos fraco. Em maio, Inaê Soto Amstel Ultra, Phytoervas 4Z e King fizeram uma regata-treino em Santos (SP), como o mesmo ambiente de uma competição, com bóias, juízes e barcos de apoio. As equipes poderão testar as largadas, ritmo de prova e novas funções a bordo. Agora com o S40, Inaê Amstel Ultra deu um salto de qualidade ao adquirir o barco mais vencedor da última década. A little video a made before Xmas, and forgot about. Figured I might as well post it as it is in the realms of 'Kind of Interesting', if you are interested in the loads sweating a dockline creates. Roughly made but there we go. This is a follow up video based on the first dockline load video I made. Hope you enjoy. Let me know what you think I got wrong :). Its been rare, but a couple of times I have come across situations where a sailboat cannot be brought into the dock by sweating a dockline. This is usually pretty extreme circumstances (+40knots of wind, very little protection from seawalls etc). It caused me to wonder, why can't a boat always be moved if sweating a line can potentially give an infinite tension on the line. This is a little bit of figuring out why that is.
