St Eustache ou Statia, n'est pas très connue et est préservée du tourisme de masse. Elle ne possède pas de plage de sable donc les touristes ne débarquent pas ! Elle n'en est pas moins sublime, préservée, intimiste, où il est facile d'échanger avec les locaux. Avec 3000 habitants, ces petites rues et maisons typiques, le charme opère. Les eaux sont très riches en poissons et autre flore marine : de nombreux sites de plongées sont répartis tout autour de l'île. Lors de notre séjour, il y avait beaucoup de houle et un seul mouillage possible : nous n'avons pas passé nos meilleurs nuits ici ! On a choisi de plonger sur l'épave la plus proche dans la baie : le bateau était colonisé de toute part et habité par des raies pastenagues et des tortues vertes ! Il y en a même une qui ne voulait plus nous quitter !

Für uns Segler ist es vom Ankerplatz Papagayo mit dem Beiboot leicht zu erreichen. Der Tauchspot eignet sich auch für Tauchanfänger und geht auch maximal 15 m Tauchtiefe. Der Künstler Jason deCaires Taylor - bekannt durch ähnliche UW-Installationen in Grenada, Cancun, Mexico - hat hier 2016 einzigartige Figurengruppen am Meeresboden platziert,. Der Bezug auf die enormen Flüchtlingsprobleme wird sofort sichtbar. Ein für mich besonderer Aspekt ist die Schaffung eines kleinen, künstlichen Riffes zum Schutz der Flora und Fauna im Atlantik.
