Dating back to the 16th century, the impressive architectural monument Pustinja Blaca Monastery stands tall in the face of mountains. Also known as Blaca Hermitage, this historical and cultural monument is unique to the island of Brac, located on the southern border between Milna and Bol. Thanks to its longstanding cultural and natural significance, it has justly been given the status of an immovable cultural asset. Blaca Hermitage has seen many holdings; as the former home of Glagolitic monks, to becoming an observatory, and finally a protected cultural monument. Throughout the 16th century, Pustinja Blaca was founded as a religious co-operative to cultivate the land which was later granted permission to build a monastery and church. The monks were busy up-keeping the hermitage by producing wine, olive oil, and honey to the point where it was one of the strongest economic entities of Brac Island. For 100 years between the 19th and 20th century, the monastery was then managed by Milicevic priests who had a strong interest in astronomy. Be sure to watch on to find out a fun astronomy fact that honours past priests! If you’re looking to discover this hidden gem, it’s not as easy as other Croatian monuments. With some narrow hiking trails, the easiest way is to trek from Blaca Bay, where you can dock a vessel and climb 2km. Sound like your type of discovery? Trek to this incredible monument on our Hike Cruise! https://www.sail-croatia.com/croatia-cruises/active-croatia/hike-croatia

The wide side decks provide great access to the bow and docking. The bow and stern thrusters make docking and maneuvering a breeze. Other features include, big screen Raymarine C120 GPS Radar, wired for scotty downrigger, Turbo diesel 6LP 315 hp Yanmar with only 623 hours, 3 marine batteries, 3 pantographic wipers, enclosed head with vacuflush, GFCI 110V outlet, 30 amp shore power, Espar diesel furnace, single burner alc/elec stove top, microwave oven, sound system, trim tabs, VHF radio, windlass. Dinghy negotiable. This is a really clean well kept listing. Ask about potential moorage in West Van. By appointment.

In this episode we hurry north towards Villanova Barcelona to see AC40 racing but on the way get som sporty waves turning our sidedeck into a river but we had time for a stop in a beautiful romantic anchorage before we continued to Puerto Roda de Barra next to Villanova where we have a berth during the races. Thanks to @SVBlownAway for information about the anchorage. We are a middle aged couple that has left our hectic business lives to go sailing with our sailboat Fridá af Wisby and our cat Litza. Our goal is sail the Mediterrainean Sea and really enjoy life. Anders has been at the sea most of his life and sailed for the Swedish national dingy sailing team as a young man. Gitte has also grown up with boats and spent every summer sailing with her father as a teenager. Onboard we also have our cat Litza a 4 year old Devon Rex we call her the cattain because cats always decide over their humans. Fridá af Wisby is a Wauquiez 47 pilot saloon that we Gitte and Anders bought in UK in 2019 Find us on Noforeignland https://www.noforeignland.com/boat/fridaafwisby?sid=6095395836919808&tc=1713725044164

In this behind-the-scenes episode, we walk through the critical steps of winterizing and hauling out our sailboat. As the Mediterranean sailing season comes to a close, it's time to protect the boat from harsh weather, moisture, and mechanical wear. We begin by motoring into the boatyard and prepping the vessel for lift. From flushing the engine and topping off antifreeze to inspecting the hull and cleaning the waterline, we show every step. If you're new to seasonal boat care, this episode offers a detailed yet simple breakdown. We also share tips on how to choose a reliable yard, what supplies to have on hand, and how to avoid costly mistakes. Watching your boat rise out of the water is emotional — a reminder that sailing is both a dream and a responsibility. For cruisers planning long-term trips or storage between seasons, this video is a must. Winterizing properly can extend the life of your boat and reduce future headaches. Please like, comment, subscribe and click the bell icon for notifications to keep in touch! So appreciated! Incidentally, I gave you a checklist of our process from servicing the engine, generator and outboard, moving all bedding away from the hatches and skylights, washing the outside deck etc. to remove all incrustation of foreign matter, cleaning and lubricating the bow thrusters and winches, Sealing up or discarding the pantry staples, covering all Nav stations, chart blotter, wheels and winches, removing and storing all outdoor cushions, running fresh water through the heads, lining all hatch areas (and nav table) with towels for UV and water intrusion, laundering all sheets and towels etc., covering all instruments inside and out, Washing down fenders and put on deck or store them, remove batteries from all devices so they don't leak, defrost the frig and freezers, pull out the transducers so they're not damaged in the lift, exercise all the sea cocks, put pillows, blankets etc in plastic, remove sails and send for washing and/or seasonal repair and storage, run messengers to the halyards, coil all lines and store, remove biminis and on and on and schedule trouble shooting for anything mechanical that went wrong during the voyage that we couldn't fix!!! For a better look at the checklist, check out our episode called "Up the mast" as I literally did a screen video of the actual excel checklist. https://youtu.be/1HjPMJy77Ug at 00:33 00:00 What to Expect 00:40 On screen checklist items 01:11 Lifting the Boat from the Water 01:15 Washing and Inspection 02:29 More checklist advice

One of the most visible changes in my effort to convert my 40-foot racer/cruiser into a better cruising boat was the creation of tall cockpit coamings. Taller coamings keep the cockpit dry and they provide back support when sitting in the cockpit. While cruising, the cockpit is your living room so it should be comfortable for reading, entertaining, eating and just watching the world go by. My boat was built with very low coamings, because low ones are easy to get around when racing. This was a major undertaking since the coamings have to carry the loads of the main sheet and primary winches. Watch this video to see the transformation.

In this episode, with guests aboard we tour the area of Gili Asahan, Gili Gede, and Lombok itself. This includes a demonstration of how the iconic Indonesian Rendang sauce is made. They use all fresh ingredients, including making their own coconut milk. It was really interesting knowing about the differences between the little chili peppers. Later in the week, the vacation moved off the boat to the Selong Selo resort overlooking Selong Belanak beach, where we rented a large surfboard and tried to catch a few tiny waves. Unsuccessfully. While surfing, we had a break-in to our villa. Watch to find out "whodunnit"! Thanks for following!
