Wir werden traditionell gekleidet, verheiratet, mit einem Baby gesegnet und zum Tanz aufgefordert. Wir hatten viel Spaß. Antigua ist nicht nur für ausländische Touristen ein „must“. Auch für die betuchten Gualtemateken aus der Hauptstadt ist Antigua ein nahegelegenes und hochfrequentiertes Ausflugziel. Das treibt die Preise in die Höhe. Rund um den „Parque Central“ befinden sich exklusive kleine Hotels, Restaurants und Bars. Hinter jedem Torbogen, jeder Tür lädt ein Café, eine Boutique zum Verweilen ein. Entfernt man sich vom Stadtzentrum werden die Geschäfte einfacher, die Preise günstiger. So günstig wie am Rio ist es jedoch nirgendwo. Zum Escheinungsbild der Stadt gehört, dass alle Straßen mit Kieselseine gepflastert sind. Automatisch ist der Verkehr langsam und der Fußgänger spielt eine nicht ganz so untergeordnete Rolle wie anderswo in Guatemala. Habt Ihr konkrete Fragen? Dafür haben wir uns einen Katamaran gekauft, mit dem wir Anfang März 2021 von der französischen Atlantikküste auf die Barfußroute gestartet sind. Seit vielen Jahren war eine Weltumsegelung mein (Hannes) großer Traum, den ich berufsbedingt zum Renteneintrittsalter verwirklichen wollte. Manchmal kommt das Leben aber anders als man plant. Im Frühjahr 2020 erhielt ich die Diagnose Morbus Parkinson. Plötzlich beschleunigte sich mein Leben erheblich, ich verkaufte mein Haus, löste den Hausrat auf und begann Berge an Schiffsausrüstung anzuschaffen. „Leinen los!“ war für Anfang März 2021geplant – und so kam es auch, trotz Corona. Brigitta war natürlich erst einmal vollkommen überrascht, obwohl eine Weltumsegelung wesentlich besser in Ihr berufliches Leben als Vorruheständlerin passte als in meins. In den letzten 6 Monaten hat Sie aber eine erstaunliche Entwicklung hinter sich gebracht und freut sich auf unser großes Abenteuer genau wie ich. Installed at the controls of the fleet since midday yesterday, Benoît Tuduri (CAPSO - En Cavale) was the first on the finish line of the first stage of La Solitaire du Figaro Paprec between Caen (Calvados) and Kinsale (Ireland) at 08:02:25 French time . It will have taken 3 days 19 hours 00 minutes and 25 seconds to complete the theoretical route of 610 nautical miles for the first leg. In practice, she traveled 648.63 miles at an average speed of 7.13 knots. After four days and three nights at sea marked by concentration, stress, fatigue, effort and fighting spirit, Benoît Tuduri wins (before the jury) the Beneteau Rookie Trophy. A superb performance for the adopted 29-year-old from Vendée, who is taking part for the first time in the queen race of the French Elite Offshore Racing Championship.

Its owner, Captain Neal Parker, is sad to see her go but the time has come. So why is this Marshall 22 Catboat unique? She is no longer a catboat. Capt. Parker, who has been working on and around boats his entire life (captain's license by age 20), modified her into a gaff rigged sloop. While Marshall Boats also make a similar sloop, Capt. Parker's is different and makes better use of the space below decks (the mast is farther aft) - particularly around the head area. Additionally, there is a hatch for better ventilation - which the Marshall version does not have. The other custom features makes this boat a one-off and a very capable, comfortable, and steady daysailer, over-nighter, weekender, and more. The classic lines of a catboat melded with those of a bowsprit sloop make her a beauty to behold. We also learned some new terms today - cheeky bow, apple bow, and kettle bottom. Ha!
