The SHARKI 39 (Amel), built in 1988, is a remarkable and beautifully maintained sailboat currently based in Greece. The boat boasts a sophisticated and practical interior design that’s designed to maximize comfort and utility for both short and long journeys. The interior is thoughtfully planned and crafted with an emphasis on functionality and comfort, making it a perfect home on the water. The SHARKI 39 features a dependable Perkins Prima 50 engine with a recorded 1932.19 running hours and a newly replaced timing belt. The stainless steel shaft line, HURT gearbox, and a new propeller affirm the high maintenance standard of this vessel. In der „Academia Balje de Cuba“ - ABC in Varadero haben wir schnell den richtigen Ort und mit Lazzaro den richtigen Tanzlehrer gefunden. An drei Tagen à 2 Stunden bringt er uns die Grundzüge des Salsa bei, auch wenn es schon genetisch einem Mitteleuropäer nie möglich sein wird, die geschmeidigen Bewegungen eines Kubaners nachzumachen. In Havanna wollen wir weitere drei Tanzstunden nehmen und das Erlernte vertiefen. Aktuell gibt es kaum Benzin auf Kuba. Kuba hat keine Devisen, um Öl auf dem internationalen Markt zu kaufen. Für die Kubaner ist es ausgesprochen schwierig, den Alltag zu organisieren. Wir Touristen sind stark eingeschränkt, Ausflüge zu machen. Deshalb gibt es wenige Touristen und kaum Devisen. Dennoch gelingt es uns ein Taxi zu buchen, dass uns zu zwei Höhlen und nach Matanza fährt. Um 09:30 Uhr kommen wir an der Cueva Bellamar an. Wir sind heute die ersten Besucher, alles ist noch verschlossen. Der riesige Parkplatz und die Gastronomie um das kleine Museum herum, zeigen dass hier in der Saison mit erheblichen Besucherströmen gerechnet wird. Im Moment sind wir allein. Es dauert eine Weile bis aufgeschlossen wird und sich auch ein Führer einfindet. Als wir endlich in die Höhle absteigen, haben sich doch noch einige Besucher aus Kanada und aus Kuba zu uns gesellt. In den letzten 6 Monaten hat Sie aber eine erstaunliche Entwicklung hinter sich gebracht und freut sich auf unser großes Abenteuer genau wie ich. We have a 1967 Bristol 27 sailboat for sale this week - designed by Carl Alberg. It has a Monitor Windvane steering system, a really nice/solid dinghy, and an AIS-equipped radio as nice bonuses for a classic sailboat. A young man graduated from high school and decided he wanted to take a year off and take this classic sailboat and go solo sailing. He took the Bristol 27 and sailed it from Massachusetts to the Caribbean and back over a 9-month period. At $6,000, It's a really fair price given the additional equipment. Merrymaid enjoys a significant place in yachting history. She was built as Yard No. 167 at Camper & Nicholsons Gosport in 1904 for Mr. T.A. Hardcastle, and amazed contemporary yachtsmen with her combination of speed and comfort. In 1911, after a successful period of racing, she was rerigged as a ketch, had an engine installed, and was then used principally for cruising. She was laid up in Norway for the latter part of the First World War, and was subsequently acquired by Mrs. Elizabeth Workman, who restored her original rig, and campaigned her in the Big Class, racing her against such illustrious yachts as 'BRITANNIA' and 'LULWORTH'. During this time, Mrs. Workman and Charles E. Nicholson continued to improve Merrymaid's already impressive performance. Following Mrs. Workman's acquisition of 'NYRIA', Merrymaid had two further owners, before she was bought by Sir Thomas Royden, chairman of Cunard, in 1929, who raced and cruised her until the outbreak of the Second World War. She was sold again in late 1943, her lead keel and rig were removed, and she was laid up for many years in Tollesbury, Essex. In 1963, having changed hands twice more, she was acquired by a family who have kept her as a second home. In 1994, Merrymaid was towed from her mooring of some fifty years to Heybridge Basin, also in Essex, where she was afloat, and awaiting restoration. Purchased in 2001, by the owner of the MOONBEAM III, she was shipped to the south of France for a restauration project. Unfortunately, the owner passed away and Merrymaid was sold in 2005 at an auction. The present owner of Merrymaid underwent a complete rebuild by the renowned shipyard Southampton Yacht Service keeping her original elements and interior style. After the completion of the refit (2006-2008) she departed for a circumnavigation with her owner. Upon her return from a 3-year navigation, she had a complete cosmetic and technical upgrade at SYS. Located in Palma, she represents a unique opportunity to sail anywhere in unquestionable style.
