Im Frühjahr dieses Jahrs erhielt ich die Diagnose Morbus Parkinson. Plötzlich beschleunigte sich mein Leben erheblich, ich verkaufte mein Haus, löste den Hausrat auf und begann Berge an Schiffsausrüstung anzuschaffen. „Leinen los!“ war für Anfang März geplant – und so kam es auch, trotz Corona. Brigitta war natürlich erst einmal vollkommen überrascht, obwohl eine Weltumsegelung wesentlich besser in Ihr berufliches Leben als Vorruheständlerin passte als in meins. In den letzten 6 Monaten hat Sie aber eine erstaunliche Entwicklung hinter sich gebracht und freut sich auf unser großes Abenteuer genau wie ich. This week we find a lovely, young classic cutter wooden sailboat for sale. You might remember a small gaff-rigged wooden boat we toured a few months ago (Ep 32 https://youtu.be/KQToFXrp-a4) . She was built by Paul Rollins, a Maine wooden boat builder who has created some gorgeous and sturdy boats in his day. We spotted something under a tarp outside his workshop, and came to find out it was a Bud Macintosh-designed boat he built for himself. We tracked it down to South Portland, Maine where restoration specialist, Robert Blood, is in the process of sprucing up her hull and really making her sparkle... and ready to sell. She's a fantastic example of craftsmanship and old-world charm. I really enjoyed this 50' dream yacht for a couple reasons. One, her cockpit with the protected forward section and aft deck is not only gorgeous, but practical and really well thought out for a 60's boat. Two, her main saloon is super bright with all those big portlights letting a ton of light in. Again, this is not something you usually see in sailboats of this vintage. Combine those two things with how pretty the boat is, along with the fact that she's in bristol condition, and this is a weird boat that I really like! Here, we had an impromptu opportunity to tour a quite new Dufour 430 sailboat that was currently being chartered but for sale by the owner. It’s a nice example of a modern production boat. Not a heavy ocean sailor but a fun inshore cruiser. Fit and finish was quite good and it would make a nice way to gunkhole around the Chesapeake Bay for weekends aboard. Longer passages wouldn’t be out of the question, but the smaller size would limit room for a genset, although a jobsite type gas powered generator might work. Now, nearly 6 years later, we are proud owners of the beautiful vessel, Moon Drifter. Moon Drifter is an extremely well taken care of and maintained single owner catamaran. Her Previous owners, Ralph and Helen, purchased her brand new in 2008 and sailed her seasonally throughout the Sea of Cortez up until they handed over the lines to us in 2021. SHOULD WE BUY A RAPIDO 60 TRIMARAN TOGETHER? Based on the feedback from last episodes we just had to make this video when being out sailing a #RAPIDO60 that's for sale here in Grenada. The owner is a friend of me and we had a great sail with lots of fun. RAPIDO 60 Trimaran is the worlds fastest cruising yacht on the market today and have some impressive features and performance. I don't think you can sail faster than this in a cruising yacht with comfort, and relatively spacious and luxurious yacht for it's size. Before full-time sailing, I have sailed several seasons in the Med prior to this, and obviously also in Scandinavia. I have been traveling the world before and also been an active regatta sailor. Nachdem Mystra endlich wieder im Wasser war, mussten noch letzte Vorbereitungen für den Saisonstart getroffen werden. Großbaum und Segel mussten angeschlagen und kleine Reparaturen durchgeführt werden. Zudem hatten wir eine Nachricht des Hallenbetreibers bekommen, dass der Boden der Winterlagerhalle durch unsere Arbeiten verschmutzt wurde - also mussten wir auch dieses Malheur noch beseitigen. Zum Glück hatten wir Jan und Jessi und damit tatkräftige Unterstützung dabei! ** NOW SOLD ** Kachina is a 2008 Catalina Morgan 440 listed exclusively for sale with YOTI on Pittwater. This is a high volume, solid and extremely well equipped cruising yacht. Late model large Catalina’s are rare in Australia and to find one in this condition is unique. The 440 is a Deck Saloon offering a beautiful and practical interior with a two double cabin layout with two heads. The aft cabin has easy access to the utility cabin (also accessed from the cockpit) which includes massive storage space and the option to utilise two spare berths in the form of a twin bunk. The galley is to starboard and links the cockpit and the saloon perfectly. There is both a fridge and separate freezer. The raised saloon space is comfortable and capitalises on the large Deck Saloon windows. The saloon table electrically lowers to create and additional double berth or day bed. Opposite the saloon is probably the most comfortable seating we have seen in a yacht of this size with two reclining easy chairs. Of course there is a dedicated nav and control station. Forward is the owner’s cabin with private ensuite. Storage space is abundant. Kachina has been thoughtfully and constantly upgraded since her current owners purchased her in 2018. Just some of the main items include: new rigging 2021, sails (main, genoa and Code C cruising spinnaker) all new 2020, most electrics replaced (solar panels, chart plotter, AIS, stereo, batteries, HW system, diesel heater, inverter...). There is a bow thruster, electric winch in the cockpit, and impressively a leisure furl boom in-boom furling system makes for incredibly easy short-handed sailing.
