Practicing the use of radar provide you with an edge when you really need it. We sailed from Sandoy to Hestur (the faroe islands) and the fog prevented us to see the islands. When we were arriving at Hestur, the radar and navionics help us identify the ferry which was heading to Hestur as well, so, we made a U turn to give the ferry priority to head in first. Then, the tide was running fast, so Skipper Chris did the ferry gliding to let us have a smooth and safe entrance.

Sign up here (https://tinyurl.com/mryhmwrd) to receive our free quarterly magazine about Hunter's Yard, the Norfolk Broads area, local life and heritage skills. Why? Does it matter? Light-hearted fun at the yard. Percy and Elf end up on the transom from 'Teasel' part of the Swallows and Amazons films. Lullaby, the first yatch built at the yard, in 1932, played the part. Swallow, Amazon, Titmouse and the punt Dreadnought are all looked after at Hunter's Yard. Amazon is avaiable for hire and Swallow is being restored currently. The skills used at Hunter's Yard are both timeless and endangered, those of building and preserving hand-buit wooden boats of yesteryear. Many of the boats looked after by the yard are nearly a century old, but they still sail as if they were launched last week. 🔍 Did you know? The Hunter's Yard fleet comprises 14 classic cabin yachts, and various gaff-rigged 'half-deckers, each with its own story and charm. These vessels are not just for show - they're available for educational use, RYA sail training courses, and public hire! Hunter's Yard is run by the Norfolk Fleet Heritage Trust, a registered charity dedicated to public education, sail training & the preservation, conservation & maintenance of a unique, historic fleet of traditional Broads sailing craft, the boat sheds in which they were built & associated heritage craft skills Want to experience the Norfolk Broads on one of these historic beauties? The design of the hull lines of J8 was originally from the legendary boards of Frank C. Paine. Paine is famous for his 1930 J-class yacht Yankee that was modified and updated in 1934 and the only J that could compete against the considerably longer waterline Super Js'. The lines plan shows that Paine designed J8 with an 88 ft original waterline length, a foot longer than any other J ever designed. He intended to accept a penalty on sail area for waterline length, which was quite radical in those days. The handicap system that is used nowadays is totally different but history has proven that waterline length is crucial in these designs. Read more: https://www.hoekdesign.com/yacht/j8-topaz
