When my friend and colleague Gabriele Modica Ragusa listed the WIDER Cat “ACALI” for sale I was delighted. Viewers of the Yachts For Sale YouTube channel often ask what happened to the WIDER shipyard…and now I could showcase their new catamaran. The day of filming was eye opening, when the yacht is under electric power it really is totally silent.

We recently filmed the amazing 42m Custom Line "PALOMA", owned by a gentleman with a huge appreciation for art...so we invited some local artists to enjoy the experience on board and create their own art on the sun deck in the afternoon. I have had endless debates with colleagues, particularly Charter Managers, as to whether it is better to film a charter video with paid models or with real people who are invited as guests on board for the day. Even my trusted Head of Post Production Jaroslav Ziko prefers to work with models! Personally I like the authenticity that comes from filming real guests and capturing their reactions, laughter, and enjoyment. What do you think is best? Models? 💃 Or real people? 🤷‍♂️

If you spend time in the South of France and are in the yachting industry, you will almost certainly have heard of BLACK LEGEND. It has such a distinctive outer appearance, and now I can tell you that the inside is pretty special too. This was one of those yachts that stood out for the professionalism of the crew, who on the day of filming g did everything possible to make the day go smooth and the yacht look great. The Captain and his crew were an absolute credit to the yacht, and make me feel confident that whoever buys her will be very satisfied with the way she has been looked after. Filming the Benetti Mediterraneo “BELLA VITA” made me once again appreciate what an incredible builder Benetti is. In the early 2000s the 35m “Classic” range was knocking it out the park, but rather than sitting back and being complacent they evolved the product to reach new heights. A YouTube viewer commented on our video of the 64 meter schooner ATHOS, asking what she was doing in Greenland? I was about to reply saying “she’s not… we have just filmed her in Mallorca”, but thought it best to check her location on AIS first. To my surprise, as soon as we had finished filming, ATHOS had set sail to leave the Balearics and do what she is best at…world cruising. She really is a very special yacht, I’m grateful to Tim Langmead at Fraser Yachts for giving us the opportunity to showcase her!

I like to give our editors some creative freedom with the video scripts, and I was surprised and delighted when I saw how they picked up on the family feeling and pride of the ARES shipyard on the launch day. ARES has built a top class international reputation for military craft, and this 62 meter classically styled cruising ketch is quite a departure from their usual products. The video explains the launch process and the steps that will follow, but it turned out to offer the next best thing to enjoying the occasion with the shipyard staff in Antalya, Türkiye. We’re not always able to fly to a location to film the yachts that we have for sale. In the case of “Tasman” we sent a team of approved videographers and photographers, and I called Sean McCarter of Northrop & Johnson to get a better understanding of the yacht so that I could write an informative narrative. I quickly realised that this a a VERY understated vessel. You could easily walk past her in a marina without knowing anything about her world cruising history. She really has travelled the globe, and for anybody seriously thinking of doing the same thing, it would be a mistake to pass her by!
