In this Live Stream I endeavour to answer many of the questions that I received over the last month. I'll explain why so many yachts appear unstable, the process of surveying a steel hull, and the reason I don't tell you the sales price on our yacht walk through videos. Naturally, I look forward to answering any questions that you have during the Live Stream too! Update....Actually, so many viewers asked their own questions that we barely had time to cover any of the above 😁
China is already a major force in engineering, manufacturing, electric vehicles, battery technology, drones and shipbuilding. But what about yacht building? In this vlog, I take a closer look at what is happening in China’s yacht industry, from established Chinese builders such as Cheoy Lee, Heysea and Kingship, to international yacht brands that are building in mainland China. Some of the names may surprise you. We look at explorer yachts, GRP production yachts, power catamarans, long-range vessels, and the increasing role China is playing in the global yachting market. We also discuss brands such as Nordhavn and SilverYachts, and why Chinese yacht construction may become an increasingly important part of the industry in the years ahead. Chinese yachts are here. The question is: how big will they become? This vlog is sponsored by Keane Specialty Insurance. Also mentioned in this video: The upcoming interview with Keane Specialty Insurance on the Yacht Podcast channel The monthly Yachts For Sale live stream The forthcoming walkthrough of ABBY, the highest-spec Azimut Grande 36M ever delivered If you enjoy learning about yacht brokerage, yacht construction, and the changing world of superyachts, please subscribe to the channel and click the like button. Could yachts really become cheaper than cars? In this conversation, Katia and I discuss the surprising story of JD.com founder Richard Liu and his reported plan to build affordable, green yachts in China through a new venture called Sea Expandary. Reports suggest the aim is to produce boats at around $14,000, with a major investment behind the project and a focus on making boating accessible to ordinary salaried workers. But is that really possible? And are we talking about yachts, or should we really be calling them boats? We also discuss why boating remains so expensive in places like the UK, whether China could use scale and manufacturing capacity to open boating up to a much wider audience, and why you do not need a superyacht to enjoy life on the water. Also in this episode: A major lawsuit involving Below Deck and NBC Universal, with former cast member Emile Kotze reportedly seeking damages over allegations relating to his time on the show. NBCUniversal has denied wrongdoing and the case is ongoing. The first look inside BREAKTHROUGH, Feadship’s 118.8 metre hydrogen fuel cell superyacht, including her remarkable owner’s area and underwater lounge. A viewer question about why sailing yacht hulls are shaped differently to motor yacht hulls, and whether it would be possible to create a proper beach club on a sailing yacht. And finally, we talk about what we have been filming recently, what is coming up on the Yachts For Sale channel, and the launch of our new Yacht Podcasts channel, where Katia and I discuss what happens behind the scenes on our yacht video shoots. If you enjoy yacht walkthroughs, yachting industry news, and conversations about the world of yacht brokerage, make sure you subscribe to Yachts For Sale and let us know your thoughts in the comments. We are looking at two. ZARKAVA and VALYRA are two extraordinary 27 metre Hodgdon superyachts, both built in carbon fibre, both powered by triple MAN V12 engines and Kamewa waterjets, and both created with one very clear purpose: to go incredibly fast while remaining unusually quiet and comfortable on board. Commissioned by His Highness the Aga Khan, these yachts reflect a very particular vision of yachting. Speed was important, of course, with ZARKAVA reportedly capable of around 60 knots in the right conditions, but so was comfort. These were not simply fast boats. They were highly considered, technically advanced yachts designed to combine performance, refinement and serious engineering. Built by Hodgdon Yachts in the USA, with naval architecture by Donald L. Blount, exterior styling by Pininfarina and interiors by Redman Whiteley Dixon, ZARKAVA and VALYRA are pure custom builds with a remarkable pedigree. In this tour, Katia takes you on board ZARKAVA first, looking at the deck spaces, helm area, saloon, cabins, crew accommodation and engine room, before also showing you VALYRA and explaining how the two yachts compare. If you enjoy rare yachts, high-speed yacht design, carbon fibre construction, waterjet propulsion, or simply want to see something genuinely unusual in the brokerage market, this is a very special video. Outer Reef are known for building long-range cruising yachts, often aimed at owners who want to spend serious time on board, travel extensively, and in many cases operate the yacht themselves. So in this video I look at their range, their recent merger with Lynx Yachts in The Netherlands, and two of their most popular models: the Outer Reef 650 and the Outer Reef 700/720 Motoryacht. We look at the layouts, the unusually large galleys, the owner’s accommodation, crew space, fuel capacity, range, construction, and the type of owner these yachts appear to be built for. I also came across a wonderful story about a couple who cruised extensively on their Outer Reef 650 with two parrots on board, including a transit of the Panama Canal, which gives a fascinating glimpse into what life aboard one of these yachts can actually be like. So the question is simple: would YOU cruise the world on an Outer Reef yacht? This 38.2 metre Maori flagship has one of the most distinctive profiles in the 40 metre market, with a jet black exterior, high forward freeboard, wide beam and a design that immediately makes you look twice. But the real surprise is not just how she looks. It is how cleverly she has been designed for life on board. In this full walkthrough, Katia Damborsky takes you on board K+ off the coast of Monaco to explore a yacht that feels very different from the usual raised pilothouse or widebody layout. The aft deck is open, practical and beautifully connected to the sea, with a transformer swim platform, concealed tender and toy storage, and even a secondary galley positioned exactly where guests are most likely to enjoy eating outside. Inside, K+ has been designed with a penthouse-style interior by Pulina Exclusive Interiors, with huge windows, open sightlines, a glass staircase, a marble bar and a main saloon that keeps you connected to the water on all sides. Instead of a traditional main deck master, the owner’s suite is positioned on the upper deck as a private apartment, complete with its own terrace, skylight, dressing room and beautifully finished bathroom. Delivered in 2023, K+ is the flagship Maori 125 model. She measures 38.2 metres, has a beam of 10.6 metres, 367GT of volume, accommodation for up to 10 guests in five cabins, and a top speed of 18.5 knots. To get a quote for your yacht or boat from Keane Specialty Insurance: https://keanespecialty.com/get-a-quote?pid=DSY In this vlog, we ask a question that many yacht buyers eventually consider: should you buy a classic yacht instead of a modern yacht? Classic yachts have a very particular appeal, but this video is not just about romance, nostalgia, or beautiful design. There are some very practical reasons why a classic yacht can make a lot of sense, especially when you start comparing construction materials, asking prices, range, depreciation, and the realities of yacht ownership. To explore the subject, we look at four classic yachts currently for sale: MADAME THELMA, SULTANA, SUNCOCO and BLUEMAR II. Each of them offers something quite different, but together they help show why classic yachts still have such a loyal following. In this video, we discuss four major advantages of buying a classic yacht, including steel hull construction, value for money, long range cruising, and the fact that many older yachts have already been through decades of refinement and improvement. But classic yacht ownership is not something to approach blindly. We also look at four important things you really need to do before buying one, from speaking with the captain and understanding the yacht’s refit history, to getting expert survey advice and taking an objective view of the purchase. If you are interested in classic yachts, steel yachts, Feadship heritage yachts, CRN yachts, long range cruising yachts, or simply want to understand the difference between older yachts and modern production yachts, this video should give you plenty to think about. To get a quote for your vessel from Keane Specialty Insurance: https://keanespecialty.com/get-a-quote?pid=DSY To sign up for the FREE INSIDE INFO Newsletter: www.yachtsforsaleblog.com Buying a new yacht is an exciting dream—but if you are not careful, it can also become a very expensive mistake. In this video, I explain some of the biggest risks involved when ordering a new yacht, from choosing the right shipyard and understanding payment stages, to bank guarantees, build contracts, change orders, delays, quality control, and protecting yourself throughout the construction process. Too often, buyers focus only on the finished yacht and not enough on the journey to get there. But when you are committing millions to a new build, the details matter. A weak contract, poor supervision, unclear specifications, or the wrong shipyard can turn a dream project into a nightmare. We also look at: ✔ Why a yacht should be treated as a lifestyle purchase, not an investment ✔ The warning signs that a shipyard may be in trouble ✔ Why detailed specifications protect you ✔ How change orders can dramatically affect cost and delivery ✔ Why having your own representative at the yard is essential ✔ How delay penalties can help—or create new problems If you are considering building a yacht, or even just exploring the idea, this is a video you should watch first. To get a quote for your vessel from Keane Specialty Insurance: https://keanespecialty.com/get-a-quote?pid=DSY To watch Superyacht Captain's video about refuelling a superyacht: https://youtu.be/KSNzzVEcgD0?si=D73IIyptOreuLDNh How far can a yacht really go before it needs to refuel? In this video, we look at what yacht range actually means, why it matters so much more at sea than it does on land, and why the headline number only tells part of the story. From hull design and fuel capacity to cruising speed and engine efficiency, range is a far more interesting subject than it first appears. I also look at why explorer yachts and pocket explorers are attracting so much attention right now, and why buyers are increasingly drawn to smaller yachts with genuine long-distance capability. Along the way, I talk about some of the best-known builders in this space and mention a number of extraordinary yachts with truly remarkable range figures. But the real point of the video is this: true long-range capability is not just about fuel. It is about endurance. Fresh water, food storage, spare parts, waste management, maintenance and system redundancy all play a part in determining how far a yacht can really operate independently. So if you have ever wondered what makes one yacht capable of crossing oceans while another is better suited to shorter coastal cruising, this video will give you a clear and practical overview. #YachtRange #ExplorerYacht #Superyacht #Yachting #PocketExplorer #LongRangeYacht #YachtBrokerage #yachtsforsale Follow us also on YouTube @Yachtsforsaleblog @YachtsforCharter @yachtbuilders And our partner's channel: @MarineMaxOnline If you are interested in becoming a yacht broker: www.yachtbrokermasterclass.com And if you would like to keep updated on events at the Yachts For Sale YouTube team you can join the free INSIDE INFO newsletter at www.yachtsforsaleblog.com

To get a quote for your vessel from Keane Specialty Insurance: https://keanespecialty.com/get-a-quote?pid=DSY Gross tonnage is one of the most important terms in yachting, and also one of the most misunderstood. In this video, I explain what gross tonnage actually means, why it has nothing to do with weight, and why it matters so much when it comes to the size, value and complexity of a yacht. Because in reality, two yachts can be very similar in length and yet offer completely different amounts of internal volume. That matters for buyers, owners, brokers and anyone trying to understand what a yacht really is beyond the headline figure of 50m, 60m or 100m. I also look at why so many yachts are designed to stay below 500GT, how gross tonnage affects regulations and ownership, and why length alone can be a very misleading way to judge the true scale of a yacht. Along the way, I compare yachts of similar length with dramatically different GT figures, and count down the yachts that take internal volume to the extreme. In this video: • What gross tonnage actually means • Why GT matters more than length in many cases • Why 500GT is such an important threshold • How yacht designers work around GT limits • The highest-volume yachts in the world This video is sponsored by Keane Specialty Insurance. Take a look at the NEW Yachts For Sale Blog website and sign up to the free newsletter at: www.yachtsforsaleblog.com Grand Banks is one of those yacht brands that serious cruisers seem to know very well, even if it does not always dominate the headlines in the way that some European builders do. In this video, I take a closer look at what makes Grand Banks so interesting, from its strong ocean-going reputation and loyal following, to the engineering philosophy that sits behind the brand. Built in Malaysia and produced largely in-house, these yachts have developed a name for quality, efficiency and genuine long-range capability. A big part of that story is Mark Richards, the man behind the brand’s modern direction. With a background at the very top level of competitive sailing, his obsession with efficiency, weight, drag and fuel burn has shaped the way these yachts are designed and built. It is a very different mindset from the usual motor yacht approach, and it has led to some genuinely fascinating results. We also look at the thinking behind Grand Banks’ patented V-Warp Technology, the brand’s lightweight monocoque construction, and why so many experienced owners continue to come back for more. When a brand attracts that level of repeat business, it tells you a lot. So the big question is this: does truly affordable long-range cruising actually exist, or is that just wishful thinking? Grand Banks may not be trying to win a beauty contest, but there is a strong argument that they are getting a lot of the things that really matter absolutely right. From the generous foredeck lounge and pool, to the superb aft deck, fold-down beach club, gym setup and highly usable guest areas, this is a yacht that seems to have been designed by somebody who really understands how life is lived on board. There are also some lovely details throughout, including the use of glass instead of traditional railings in key areas, hidden storage solutions, and a main deck arrangement that gives both the owner and guests an exceptional amount of comfort. What really sets KINDA apart, though, is her technical side. She has a hybrid propulsion system with diesel, diesel-electric and full electric modes, giving the yacht added flexibility, greater efficiency and quieter operation. With a cruising speed of 12 knots, a top speed of 17 knots, and a range of 4,400 nautical miles, she is not just a beautiful yacht to look at, but a very capable one too. How much does it really cost to charter a yacht? In this video, we break down the real cost of luxury yacht charter and explain why the advertised weekly rate is only the starting point. Using the 77m Golden Yachts MALIA as a real-world example, we look at how a base charter rate of €750,000 per week can quickly become around €1.2 million once you factor in the additional costs that come with a fully bespoke experience. We explain the key elements that shape the final price, including the Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA), VAT, and crew gratuities, as well as the operational costs that many people do not fully understand. That includes fuel, food and drink, marina fees, port charges, tenders, water toys, shore services, provisioning, and special requests onboard. This is a useful guide for anyone curious about superyacht charter prices, how yacht charter costs really work, and why no two charters ever cost the same. Chartering a yacht is not like booking a hotel or renting a villa. It is a tailored travel experience built entirely around the guests onboard, and the final price depends heavily on how the yacht is used, where it cruises, and the lifestyle you want to enjoy during the trip. We also touch on why a charter in the South of France during peak season can cost far more than a quieter itinerary elsewhere, even on the very same yacht. Next Saturday we’ll be publishing a walkthrough of the stunning 50m Tankoa yacht KINDA, so make sure you’re subscribed so you don’t miss it.
