What Fighting 25 Knots in the Gulf Stream on a 36 ft Boat Feels Like (Calico Skies Sailing Ep.101)

The last part of our passage to Mexico was a perfect demonstration of what fighting 25 knots in the Gulf Stream on a 36 foot sail boat feels like . . . Choppy seas form when wind goes against current but sometimes it's just a battle out there and there's no way to avoid it. We knew the end of our offshore journey to Mexico could be uncomfortable because of crossing the Gulf Stream and that's exactly what happened. The earlier part of our trip was beautiful though and you'll see that in the first part of this episode. New sail configurations, light breeze and a calm sea state - These are some of our favorites when offshore sailing. As waves grew steeper on the morning of the third day, we got a visit by dolphins. Then conditions began to deteriorate and it was a wet and choppy ride all the way into Mexico. There is nothing like making landfall though and we are hugely rewarded when we finally dock up safe and sound in our new home.
