We caught up with the GGR fleet’s youngest member before he set off to sail around the world

21-year-old Louis Kerdelhué comes from a sailing family and has a dinghy-racing background. He turned to yachting when he first heard about the ‘race for madmen’, and started preparing while he was still finishing his university degree. In 2023, he got his Yachtmaster Offshore and has been busy racking up solo miles since. He’s sailing a Biscay 36 Masthead sketch called IE Charge, previously known as Nuri. The boat was originally refit for the 2018 GGR, and went around with Michael Guggenberger in 2022/23. True to his nickname of ‘Last-minute Louis,’ we first saw the young skipper come (literally) crashing through the window once the farewell press conference was already underway. He was doing laps on the pontoons to get his ducks in a row until the last possible moment, before his equally fresh-faced friends hurrahed him off the mooring.
