The Worst Sound a Yacht Skipper Can Hear...

16 Visningar· 29/09/26

“The worst thing a skipper can ever experience is finding a new noise.” Midnight. Mid-Atlantic. And suddenly, there’s a noise from the back of the yacht that definitely wasn’t there before. What James Kenning discovered aboard ARKYLA quickly escalated from an unfamiliar sound to bilge pumps, lifejackets, a Pan-Pan and the grab bag being readied. Once safely in Grenada and out of the water, the likely explanation became clear: ARKYLA had suffered a whale strike. James tells the extraordinary story, and explains how they calmly worked the problem while still hundreds of miles from land, in Episode 25 of the Berthon Podcast.
