It's like being at a little party. https://www.patreon.com/acorntoarabella People make a big deal out of the whiskey plank for a reason. It's a milestone and a cause for celebration. The boat is not anywhere near completion, but the hull's structure, the thing that makes it a boat, is DONE. After installing the locust sheer strake and the second to last plank, a cedar one just below it, it's time to knock in the shutter plank for the starboard side, which is also that all-important "whiskey plank." Why whiskey? Well, it's just having to do with celebration. Have whatever libation or celebration you want after the last plank on Arabella goes in—it's not about the dram. In boatbuilding, the whiskey plank is about the biggest milestone you can reach before launch, and we plan to launch the boat in 2023. We'll announce the date very soon. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve started as an amateur boat builder building a 38' wooden boat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project will continue well past launch, when he and the crew will travel and learn to cruise aboard the boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you are interested in supporting/helping here are a few ways: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/how-to-help Acorn to Arabella's wishlist: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/wishlistpriority TotalBoat Referral: Need something TotalBoat sells?
