Especially when land fall involves transiting a cut on a leeward shore complicated by tricky tides. And if there's one thing that we’ve learned in our time sailing the Bahamas, is that a weather forecast older than 12 hours might as well be from last week. Our biggest concern is finding an anchorage that has complete protection from all sides, because our most recent weather forecast dowloaded this morning on our Inreach Satellite communicator, shows the wind completely boxing the compass within the next 24 hours as well as increasing speed to over 30 knots. We were so relieved to look at the charts and see the dream anchorage inside of Royal Island just a few miles away. That night we experienced the most intense thunder and lightning storm we have ever been in! We have never seen anything like it in our entire lives. The wind indeed boxed the compass as forecasted and there is no way we would have been as safe at any other anchorage in the area. We were so glad that we installed the lightning rod to the top of our mast and grounded everything on the boat to the lightning ground dissipating plate on the bottom of the boat.
