Sailors for the Sea x SailGP Spain: "In Hot Water"

The ocean covers 70% of our planet and plays a critical role in regulating Earth’s climate. But climate change is accelerating its impacts—leading to coral bleaching, shifting marine ecosystems, and more. 🪸🌊 In this KELP (Kids Environmental Lesson Plans) activity, “In Hot Water,” SailGP Spain strategist Nicole van der Velden shows how heat affects our atmosphere and ocean. Using two balloons, one filled with air and one with water, plus a heat source (the sun), kids can see how differently each stores heat. Nicole also demonstrates a simple experiment to show how temperature changes water’s density and movement, helping us better understand the delicate balance of our climate system.
