We installed our water maker 💦& we had our scariest storm hit us this week.🌊 We installed our water maker just before the storm hit this week! It has taken months of planning and preparation to finally get to this stage of our water maker but we can finally install it 💦 Chris Boock was his ever helpful self and organized everything that we needed for it to be put together. We were given the cells by the previous owner and just had to piece the rest of it together. The small Jabsco parmax 24V pump pushes the salt water up from the skin fitting below the waterline and through the 20 micron and then a 5 micron filter, the water then flows through a Karcher K2 which then pumps it through the desalination membranes in the cells at 60bar pressure and after it has worked it’s way through the membranes you have fresh drinkable water!!! Robin made all the brackets that all of the pieces of the water maker fitted into inside of the forward locker adjacent to the anchor locker. After they were all painted with Flowcoat, Colben dry fitted all the pieces in their places to make sure they all fitted properly before finally fitting it all back in place permanently and attaching all the pipes and valves. We are slowly on our way to being self sufficient and living off of the grid! We weathered one of our worst storms yet. With everyone at the marina on high alert and telling us that the supposed marina architect was telling people that the marina was not designed for the intensity storm that was headed our way! This did not comfort us at all. We moved all our tools and supplies off of the dock and stored it in the “Shed”, one of the cabins in the yacht. We were also told that the possibility of the docks and fingers breaking apart was a possibility which made us feel even worse! Cue the P A N I C. Karen has the usual tears of panic the night before the storm was predicted to hit. We prepared the best we could by tying up to the dock, hanging extra fenders and making sure we had spare lines at the ready. We woke to 51 knot gusts on Monday morning around 2am and the wind was sustained between 30 - 40 knots. None of us got much sleep after that. Colben was up and down the docks intermittently from 3am checking that other boats were still okay as well as Chris Boock’s boat on the dock next to ours. The temperatures dropped throughout the day. We expected 10.5 meter swells to be coming straight over the marina wall from the West at 2/3pm that same day. Surprisingly the peak of the swell we received was on Monday evening when the swell was predicted to be calming down. We all went on high alert because we were being thrown around the yacht like never before due to the swell coming through the marina. At 2am on Tuesday morning Colben and Teagan woke to a noise that sounded like a gunshot, Colben was up and out of bed in seconds and discovered that our mid ships cleat had sheered one of the two 8mm bolts holding the cleat to the yacht. In a frantic panic we were all woken up and helping to try sort out the problem. Once again after all this action we got very little sleep once again. It is safe to say everyone’s moods had taken a slump and we had very short tempers with each other 🌪 so Tuesday evening we were all in bed early and getting our much needed beauty sleep in the knowledge that the worst was over and we had got through yet another storm.
