In this video, I look back at Episode 28, a very early moment in the preparations for my solo circumnavigation in The Netherlands. It is April and still very cold in The Netherlands, but I cannot wait to make my miles on my new boat. The day starts at 5:30 AM, with plans and preparations for a solo tour around North Holland which means that I solosail at sea for the first time. As the wind builds beyond force 5, I choose backup and set sail together with my husband Mark. Fresh bread, strong winds, and an early departure set the tone. What follows is an 11-hour upwind sail toward Enkhuizen—locks, freighters, reefs in the mainsail, and winds up to 27 knots.
