Sailboat Windlass Pulls Itself Up Anchor While on Anchor - Faulty Button Requires Emergency Repair

A hidden electrical short on the anchor button on our Lofrans Tigress Windlass caused our anchor to lift itself unexpectedly, creating a serious and potentially dangerous situation onboard our Amel sailboat. In this maintenance blog, I break down how a faulty control button triggered the problem, how I diagnosed the wiring issue, and why removing the button entirely was the safest fix. If you’re dealing with mysterious windlass behaviour, electrical gremlins, or unreliable deck controls, this walkthrough shows a simple, real-world scenario that prevented a dangerous anchoring incident from occurring again. Essential viewing for liveaboards, cruisers, and anyone maintaining a sailboat anchor system.
