Raymarine SPX-5 wheel pilot with P70 Control Head Demonstration

What's missing in this initial trial is emphasis on sail trim. The Raymarine works well in quite heavy air and sea--far better than the general reputation of wheel pilots--if the boat is trimmed for neutral helm, as it must be for a pendulum wind vane system. Experienced singlehanders reef the main and headsails until the boat just about steers itself. In heavy air this costs a very small amount in speed.
