November has arrived in Southeast Alaska, and we're making our way back into protected waters aboard our 80-foot, triple-masted steel schooner, Alaskan Gypsy! After finishing a remote job on the outer coast, we're leaving the exposed Gulf of Alaska and heading north through Peril Strait and Chatham Strait toward Tenakee Inlet. But cruising Southeast Alaska this time of year means paying close attention to the weather, currents, and increasingly short days. We start out in confused seas, rain, and wind, with everything aboard needing to be secured. Once inside, we enjoy some beautiful, calm stretches of water, but the weather doesn't stay cooperative for long! Along the way, Scott shares his thoughts on navigating Southeast Alaska's challenging currents, we make a few unsuccessful attempts at deer hunting, and we decide to keep moving north ahead of another approaching gale. Eventually, we find a protected anchorage in Corner Bay, where we settle in to ride out the November weather. And of course, there's life aboard between the adventures: heaters, generators, baking, a little teasing, and Scott's usual commentary on everything from hunting to Audrey's kitchen creations. 😂 This is what living aboard in Southeast Alaska looks like as we enter the dark season. It's not always sunshine and calm seas, but there's nowhere else we'd rather be. Thanks for coming along with us! ⚓ Subscribe to The Alaskan Gypsy Life for more adventures aboard our 80-foot schooner as we explore Alaska's remote waterways, communities, and wild places. #AlaskanGypsyLife #SoutheastAlaska #LiveaboardLife #SailingAlaska #boatlife Chapters: 00:00 Rough seas leaving the Gulf of Alaska 03:07 Goodbye Gulf of Alaska 04:22 Surfing the swell toward Peril Strait 06:10 Navigating Peril Strait after dark 07:23 Finding a sheltered cove 07:59 Battling headwinds 09:24 Hunting and cruising Chatham Strait 11:18 Racing ahead of the next gale 12:44 November's disappearing daylight 13:47 Anchored in Corner Bay 14:42 Scott's commentary on Audrey's baking 😂 17:25 Riding out the November storm 18:18 Winter boat life in Southeast Alaska 19:14 Safe harbor and the dark season
