Giving Back to a Remote Alaska Community | Warm Springs Bay
Sometimes the best part of exploring remote Alaska isn't just the beautiful places we discover. It's the people we meet along the way. We're back in Warm Springs Bay on Baranof Island, Alaska, enjoying a beautiful October visit aboard Alaskan Gypsy. While spending time in this quiet little community, we met some of the local caretakers and locals who were working to clear fallen trees and gather firewood along the boardwalk. And when we learned that one of the men had actually built the beautiful natural hot spring grotto here decades ago, it made this experience even more special. Scott first visited Warm Springs Bay as a teenager while commercial fishing in Southeast Alaska, and he still remembers soaking in those hot springs all those years ago. Warm Springs has become a favorite stop for Audrey in Southeast, Alaska over the years as well. Now, decades later, he's back with a chainsaw, helping haul heavy rounds of firewood out of a steep, slippery creek bottom. It's hard work, but it's also a wonderful opportunity to get to know the people who care for these remote places and give a little something back. Life in Southeast Alaska has a way of bringing people together. Sometimes all it takes is showing up, lending a hand, and sharing a little time. Join us for another day in beautiful Warm Springs Bay, where the sunshine finally makes an appearance and we're reminded just how much we love this life. We're Audrey and Scott, living aboard our 80-foot steel schooner, Alaskan Gypsy, exploring the remote communities and waterways of Southeast Alaska.
