When buying an older sailboat, one of the first things you (or your surveyor) should check is the lifelines. Older boats tend to have plastic coated stainless steel lifelines. Over time these crack or chafe allowing water to get in and do what water does best: corrode. In this episode we replace our old plastic-coated sailboat safety lines with uncoated 1x19 stainless steel. We debated whether to go with Dyneema, but decided stainless was the way to go for us. But both are great and both have pros and cons. Our old lifelines were an accident waiting to happen. Glad to have this completed.
