Jane took over the saloon today so that she could tackle insulating the starboard size, normally hidden behind the settee back, which we use as a "storage" dumping ground. This is the first layer of insulation designed to move the condensation point away from the hull. Between the stringers (which are foam surrounded by fibregalsss) we will have 40mm of xps sheet. They will be airtight sealed at the edges so it shouldn't matter that there will be an air gap between the foil backed foam and the fairly rigid xps. The xps will be held in place by 100mm plywood strips screwed to the stringers. There will be a narrow timber strip on the outside so that the screws don't punch through the thin plywood. We are painting the xps and the ply will be painted in a contrasting colour. You can see this in our top 10 interior changes video (set as the related video). When we bought Vida in August 2019 she was in a very tired and damp condition with all original equipment and fittings (much of it not working). We have removed all the gas, diesel and paraffin equipment, and are installing all-electric (motor, cooking etc).
