J109 Fast Downwind Reaching in 25 Knots

The crew of bottom up boats where pushing their J109 yacht to the limit in the annual narrows series. With the wind gusting over the 25 knots they were the only boat in the race who was brave enough to go for the kite on a tight reach. The crew were working hard to get the kite set and under control, once set it it was downwind reaching all the way to the bottom mark before turning and heading back to Strangford Sailing Club. The boat speed over ground topped out at over 13 knots with the the crew trimming the spinnaker perfectly as we flew downwind. The A3 Spinnaker was the perfect choice for the fast downwind reaching leg from Mark 11 to 17. The J109 yacht showed how sea worthy they are handling the 35 knot gusts with ease.
